I woke this morning to a mess most of us will have from time to time. I had just bought a new 5/16" tube for a spare and I found out it will fit in the rubber grommet of the lid of the 6.5 gal ale pail make a awesome blow off.

Worked well, hard to clean.

I ordered this in the 4-foot length. I think 3-foot would be perfect. As described, it fits snugly within the neck of a 5 gal carboy. It is not easy to clean - I will need to use a coat hangar or other device to fish my bottle brush through.

Make sure to order a couple feet

Fits perfectly in my 6 gallon glass carboy, just make sure when you order the tubing that it is sufficient length to what you need it for, I would suggest at least 3 or 4 feet.

This is a must have item for anyone who uses carboys as a primary vessel. It only takes one vigorous fermentation eruption to make you wish you had bought it sooner.

Works, but is hard to clean

It fits snugly in the neck of the carboy, but is hard to clean. Even so, there is no alternative to using it, since a blow off is a mess.

Get 4 feet

I use carboys for primary fermentors sometimes, and with this blow off tube I have no more messes. I just stuck it in my carboy, it fit well, and had the end in a container of water.

doesn't fit Better Bottles

Ok, my fault, but I thought it would fit a better bottle, but it doesn't because the better bottle has a wider mouth. What I do is stick in the blow off tube and cover with cellophane wrap. I can remove it after the Krausen subsides. I'm just curious what people with Better Bottles do for blow off tubing.

If you primary in carboys, you want this

This fits my 5 and 6 gallon glass carboys fine. I use it when I primary. Carboys tend to have less head space than plastic buckets, so blow off are more of a problem and you need a blow off tube to avoid a mess on your floor. I stick the other end in a small bucket of water.

You need this if you use carboys or better bottles

The Krausen is too large for a 5 gallon carboy, and maybe even a 6 gallon carboy. I use this tube and have it run into a water filled bucket to hold the krausen. Its loose in a better bottle, and somewhat hard to clean. You need PBW for sure.

Absolutely needed on hand when brewing. Tip to clean is prop upwards in sink and pour some oxyclean with hot water until tube if filled and it should be enough to get anything out of there!
