This flask was a great addition to my brewing supplies and has come in handy for other random chemistry experiments I have done as a side hobby. Washes out well with BPW Midwest sells too.

compared to flasks I've used before the glass on this seems a little thin for its size. It's not an egg but don't just throw it in with your brew pots and let it bang around. I would still recommend getting this though if you're just making some starters occasionally. Remember to get a stopper too.

I always seem to find a use for this thing. The overall quality is good and the glass is clear of any imperfections. Its not overly thick or thin and should stand up to none abusive use. Not sure off hand if this is true lab glass so be extra careful if heating/cooling. Cleans up well and is labeled well. I will buy another if the time comes!

I added this to my order to compliment my 2L flask. I wanted a smaller sized flask for the smaller starters. I feel the glass is plenty thick and the quality seems high. The price on the other hand I thought was fair. I remembered the price for this flask and noticed it was actually cheaper at the LHBS by about 20%. I am still pleased with my decision to buy from Midwest and they did a great job with securely shipping the glass amongst the other items I purchased.

This trustworthy flask makes it super easy to prepare a small yeast starter for 5 gal batches. I have used it to prepare about a dozen starters so far. You can place it directly on the stove to boil the water/DME (watch for boilovers!) and then chill it in minutes in an ice bath. Easy to clean and pretty sturdy. I definitely recommend this item.

Just what I needed

I'm trying my hand at brewing high gravity ales, 1.12 OG Barleywine, and need a healthy robust yeast to finish fermentation. Yeast starter was the most economical way of going about it. This flask was just what I needed to create my starter.

Yeast starters made easy

Put 100 g of DME in the flask with yeast nutrient, add water to about 900 ml, 1 drop antifoam, put directly on your gas stove and boil for 10 mins, put in an ice bath in a gallon bucket until cool to the touch, add yeast and you have a 1L starter. Much easier to do than trying to boil in one pot and transfer to a different vessel while your yeast multiply.
