How to carbonate a beer in 15 minutes

Please note: This is a quick and dirty method for force carbonation. Click here for complete instructions for the slow and steady method

When using force carbonation, you can carbonate a beer in 15 minutes, but there is a draw back. When you carbonate a beer this way, the CO2 never really infuses itself into the beer. You will get 1 or 2 days where the carbonation will be pretty good, but somewhere around the 3rd day, your beer will start going flat. So, if you are in a pinch, and need to have your beer ready for the party, follow the directions below. But, we did warn you that if you don’t finish the keg, plan on force carbonating the beer the traditional way to get proper carbonation.

  • Hook up gas tubing to keg
  • Turn CO2 regulator to 40 PSI and turn gas on
  • Place keg horizontal/ on its side
  • Roll the keg back and forth for 15 minutes
  • Place the keg vertical/ upright, turn off the gas, release the pressure, and adjust your regulator to 5-6 PSI
  • Turn gas back on
  • This is very simple to do, it takes very little time, and you end up with a relatively well carbonated beer. Is it going to be perfect? No, but it should be close enough.
