This 5-gallon glass carboy is the perfect size for a secondary fermentation. You’ll want your batch to age for a long time and this bad boy leaves minimal head space that is ideal for a 5-gallon batch. Customers come back again and again for these glass carboys because our glass is heavy-duty, doesn’t hold odors or scratch like plastic, and won’t break down over time. Plus, it’s fun to watch the fermentation take place inside.

Awesome Service! Review by Sammitch

(Posted on 5/6/14)

Product Rating:

When I first received my carboy in the mail, it was shattered in the box. The UPS people were likely rough with it. I called Midwest the next day and the person I spoke to was very kind and told me that they would ship out a new one the same day.

Fantastic service, if you ask me.

Glass Carboy Review by lilgnome

Product Rating:

I have several of these. They are the way to go. Little risk of scratching that can harvest infections, clear glass making it easy to see inside, fairly easy to clean by just pouring in some PBW and letting it soak, the small hole is a bit of a pain to work with at times. I continue to use this even as I have switched to much larger batches and just split the wort between multiple carboys.

Great Carboy Review by jlj

Product Rating:

Classic carboy that gets the job done. Heavy when full as expected with any carboy. I have found that when emptying the carboy, inserting a piece of tubing or pipe from the top to the bottom will enable the air to quickly enter the vessel and cause the liquid to quickly evacuate the carboy.

Glass > Plastic Review by Shred

Product Rating:

Great if you're doing a smaller batch or require secondary to limit headspace. If you intend a fermentation longer than 4-6 weeks, glass is the way to go. Plastic will breathe and may leave you with oxidized beer.

Great Purchase Review by Paul

Product Rating:

Great for secondary fermentation. Even though it is heavier, I prefer these glass carboys over the better bottles. However, I do recommend purchasing a handle.

The only inconvenience is the small opening, which can make it difficult if you want to add certain things to secondary fermentation (such as whiskey barrel chips).

Easy to clean. Love watching the beer clarify in the glass!!! Very nice product.

Easy to clean and doesnt flex Review by Koosman

Product Rating:

I use the brew hauler so safety is less of a problem. The better bottles flex and can crack if propped on one side or you use hot PBW water to clean. I can scrub these with a brush and soak in caustics without damaging the glass.

great secondary fermentation option Review by hoppedup

Product Rating:

These carboys are the perfect size for secondary fermentations of beer. Doing this will help clarify your batch. They are a bit awkward to carry unless you buy a handle but will take your beer brewing to the next level.

Excellent Tool Review by Macaille

(Posted on 11/4/13)

Product Rating:

We purchased this carboy as an upgrade from the beginner's kit. It has proven to be a very valuable tool in our homebrewing. First, we can visually see better how our recipes are coming along. Second, it allows us to have two beer recipes going at once (one fermenting in the carboy, and one fermenting in the original 5-gallon bucket that came without kit). And third, our hoppy IPAs (husband's favorite) seem to ferment better, somehow, in the carboy. While carboys seem to be a bit harder to clean, the extra effort is well worth it. We also appreciate the glass in this one, as it doesn't scratch and create caverns for bacteria to grow.

ideal vessel for aging wine and cider Review by Sean

(Posted on 11/2/13)

Product Rating:

Its 100% Oxygen impermeable (but make sure the stopper is secure.
It doesn't scratch so as long as you clean hard with a brush and PBW no infection.
The only downside is the weight and risk of breaking. Use a brew hauler and thats minimized.
