Great Secondary

This makes for a great secondary fermenter. Because it is glass, it is easier to clean up in my opinion. If you use hot water and clean it up right after you transfer and bottle, clean up is easy. I let a little bit of sanitizer soak in there and it is ready to go for the next batch. Probably get another one of these as well as a couple bigger ones and get away from the plastic buckets.

This is a quality carboy, so glad i decided to go with a carboy as my secondary fermentor and not another bucket. Midwest took great care in shipping this to me, this thing could have survived a fall down a set of stairs!!!

gotta have a second one to rack your wine into. It works great, is easy to clean, and survives a pretty good fall without breaking.

I received my order today (fast service), love the 5 and 3 gallon carboys, they are high quality and in perfect condition. I have already mounted them in 'real' milk crates, and am looking forward to actually seeing secondary fermentation (no more plastic bottles).

Heavy Duty Carboy

This carboy is think and sturdy. The only downsides, like all carboys, are it can be tricky to clean and carry when full. But I like the heavy duty nature of the glass - it is very solid. I will be buying many more...

I bought two of these along with 2 of the 6.5 gals over 10 years ago for like 7 or 8 bucks a pop. With exception of 1 that I'd just broken from stupidity. They have outlasted every plastic wanna-be that has come down the pipe that my other folks in our club has tried.... no scratches, no clouding, no plastic canteen flavors in my beer, no sanitation issues. Even at the current price they are still a way better overall value versus stainless. But gosh...30 bucks for Chinese glass?

GREAT ITEM, EXCELLENT QUALITY

Superior quality product (the one I received was manufactured in Italy). In my opinion, the glass carboy is CERTAINLY superior to plastic carboys (as long as you don't drop it on hard floor). As mentioned in other reviews, if cleaned promptly after use w/ hot water, cleaning it is a snap and does NOT require a lot of extra effort at all. Purchased 2nd one a month after I got my 1st one, and will likely purchase a 3rd at some point this year. If you want to brew a quality beer on this scale, there is simply no substitute. The glass quality of these 5-gallon carboys is textured and flawed, and may prove difficult to clean. The bottom of one is curved which allows it to rock back and forth on a flat surface. I recently bought (from Midwest Supplies) 2 carboys of the 3-gallon size that were made in Italy, were labeled as such, and have a superior, smooth finish inside and out, flat bottoms and far fewer voids or bubbles. These 5-gallon carboys are obviously inferior by comparison, have many air bubbles and a crease-type flaw (not a mold-seam) in the middle-bottoms that appears to be a manufacturing problem (because it is identical on both 5-gallon carboys). They were not labeled as to country of origin (got something to hide?). I am disappointed.
Editor's Note: The Carboys we are currently selling (as of 3/31/2012) come from China.
