The extra half gallon head space helps when fermenting Review by Fontack

Product Rating:

The extra half gallon is a godsend for wine makers who ferment in carboys. You don't lose anything to blowoffs. It's too large for aging, bit perfect for fermenting.

Doesn't scratch like a better bottle Review by Soonami

Product Rating:

I like fermenting in glass so that I can see how the fermentation is going and whether the yeast dropped clear without opening up the lid to a bucket. 6 Gallon BB's are fine but they don't quite have enough head space for fermenting 5.25-5.5 gallons of wort I make each batch, and I usually need blowoff tubes and lose a fair bit of beer that way.

Make sure you get a brewhauler to help carry this thing around. Glass is great for fermenting, easier to clean and can last a really long time, but if your hands are wet while handleing one, you are playing with a ticking time bomb. Also a brewhauler (or even a milk crate) makes it easier to handle and the bottom doesn't scratch when you move it around

A ggreat fermentor Review by Sean

Product Rating:

Its perfect for fermenting wine and beer. It can be cleaned better than plastic and it absolutely air tight except at the bung. It also has plenty of head space so blowoffs are rare. I use a brew hauler whenever I move it.

This carboy just feels substantial and well made. I'm very happy with it and I'm sure it will last for many brewing sessions to come.

Great Carboy, good price Review by Jake

(Posted on 6/21/13)

Product Rating:

Bought this as my first primary fermenter and it served its purpose - I really liked being able to watch the yeast in action. However, its a little hard to take an OG reading without a baster or wine thief, so I that's when I switched to the 6.5 gallon plastic primary. Still use this as either a secondary or even a primary now that I have a wine thief. Great quality and cleans up nicely with PBW.

Great Primary Fermenter Review by Craig

Product Rating:

Love this as a primary fermenter. Can really see whats happening, though my last hefe was still to active, and needed a blowoff tube.

Good Primary Review by C-Bass

Product Rating:

This 6.5 gallon is great for a primary fermenting carboy. As long as you take care of them after using and during moving them the should last a very long time. Better than plastic in my opinion.

Great addition to equipment Review by Josh

Product Rating:

Just switch from the plastic fermenter to this carboy, and love it! Makes it easier to see what you are siphoning, plus it's fun to actually see the fermentation process.
