Not rolled enough- clogs and unusable Review by Scott

(Posted on 8/9/11)

Product Rating:

The mesh is not rolled enough and the nut holding the screen to the elbow gets pushed down into the bottom of your cooler. It creates a seal and doesn't let any mash pass through-

Too big for five-gallon Rubbermaid Review by Doug

(Posted on 2/18/12)

Product Rating:

This false-bottom turned out to be a nightmare with my five-gallon (genuine) Rubbermaid cooler. It was just a bit too tight, and it ended up permanently jammed into the bottom of the cooler when I tried to pressure it down. Now, both it and the cooler are useless. I'll take the blame for the loss, since I ought not to have forced it, but for those considering this, be advised that it doesn't fit the five-gallon Rubbermaid.

Previous review incorrect Review by Douglas

(Posted on 2/18/12)

Product Rating:

I mistakenly reviewed this item as being too tight for the five-gallon Rubbermaid cooler; in fact, my review ought to have been for the 10-inch false bottom. Last year's catalogue listed the 10-inch as being loose for the 10-gallon cooler and a tight fit in the five-gallon cooler. Midwest has since changed this and no longer specifies the 10-inch for the 5-gallon cooler. The 9-inch false bottom should fit into the 5-gallon cooler with no problems.

Sweet Review by rocketman768

Product Rating:

Put it in my 5 gal orange igloo cooler to replace a braid that I beat to death. Works much better than the braid! The fabrication is a little crude with sharp cut edges, but other that watching out for your fingers on installation, it's not an issue. Note that 9" gives you about an inch of play in the bottom of the cooler, but this seems not to be a problem at all.

Good for a 5 Gal Cooler Review by RobB

(Posted on 5/6/12)

Product Rating:

As other reviews said, the stickers are difficult to remove. I took Goo-Gone and a wire brush to get it off. Fits my 5 Gallon Rubbermaid cooler without issues. I did have a stuck sparge on my first try, but it might have been due to opening the valve too much at the beginning. Overall, a good value. Be careful with the sharp edges. I might have to sand them down since it caught my finger when installing.

beating a dead horse Review by Burtsbeers

Product Rating:

I'll continue to beat a dead horse on this one, but the sticker is a beast to remove. As RobB said I have had stuck sparges on both occasions I have used it. I wonder if they weren't and were the same issue Scott had?

Pretty ok Review by Charles

(Posted on 10/27/12)

Product Rating:

This is a perfect size for a 5 gallon rubbermaid. For some reason mine kept floating so my sparge would stick but that wasn't really the fault of the false bottom. When I bought mine there was one annoying part though, it only came with 1 nut to hold the outlet in place. Not a huge deal but it wasn't easy to find a nut the right size.

Stuck Sparge Review by Brandon

(Posted on 12/7/12)

Product Rating:

This works most of the time, but is more prone to a stuck sparge than a Bazooka screen. The problem is grain can work its way under the edges. I'd say just go with a bazooka screen and not get this.
