Standard grade Review by Bolars

Product Rating:

Several times a year I do my yeast lab work, and when I do, I use this lamp to both sterilize my inoculation loops and to provide an updraft to keep my culture dishes clean. I have an extra couple of wick for when it wears out, which won't be anytime soon.

Product Rating:

Good lamp and the wick lasts a long time.
Don't forget the updraft part, you don't want dust settling into your culture.

Its a good lamp, it sterilized my inoculation loops and creates an updraft so dust doesn't settle on my samples while working.

Product Rating:

The price is good and it sterilizes and creates enough of an updraft so that I can work without dust settling.

Yeast culturing Review by Hank

Product Rating:

What people don't seem to understand is the lamp isn't just for sterilization. You want to create an up draft so dust doesn't float down. The heat this generates will help with that. That's why I bought this instead of a micro torch.

My yeast lab Review by Sean

Product Rating:

The alcohol lamp is fine for my needs. I can sterilize all my equipment and its small and low maintenance. After reading the Yeast book I started assembling the equipment I'd need to culture yeast. I also bought a microscope off ebay.

Product Rating:

This is an easy way to have a good flame for yeast culturing. In my microbiological lab we used bunsen burners, but assuming you don't have the gas hook-up for that in your house this lamp is a great altermative.

The lamp make a good size flame for sterilizing inoculation loops, glass bottle necks, and other metal instruments. It's inexpensive and does the job.

Sterilizes my equipment Review by Farzan

(Posted on 3/7/13)

Product Rating:

This is perfect for sterilizing glass surfaces and inoculation loops for yeast culturing. You don't need a roaring flame, and a micro torch is overkill. The original wick lasted quite a while before I had to replace it.

It is what it is Review by Mark

Product Rating:

This is an alcohol lamp. Thats it. I feel a sense of security with this little guy lit and going when Im trasferring yeast or pitching yeast. If you read Chris White's yeast book he explains pretty well why a flame source is good to have when working with yeast. This little guy has a great flame short of a bunson burner. Great for starting your own yeast "lab" in an inexpensive manner.
