I activated my Wyeast packet and 4 hours later it was ready to pitch! Its been 10 hours now and my batch is fermenting like crazy! This is definitely a few steps up from dry yeast and it was a great investment. Oh, and if you do order Wyeast during the summer make sure you add cold shipping for it. I forgot to and had to brew a day early. All is well though and I'm very happy. Enjoy!

Consistant Quality for a Variety of Styles

1056 is our mainstay Yeast. It's very complementary for a variety of ales and produces a consistent product. Flocculation is Low to Moderate so you may want to add Whirlfloc tabs the last 15-20 of your boil if cloudiness is as much of an issue for you as flavor.

Flocculation is low to moderate, so if clarity is as important to you as flavor, just toss in some Whirlfloc tabs the last 15-20 minutes of your boil and you shouldn't have to filter.

Great all 'round American Classic...

I've done extensive "side-by-side" brews where I split the batchs into two equal carboys and pitched two different brand/type yeasts. In this case, the 1056 was matched with WL-001 from WhiteLabs. Ferment ran, temp controlled, at 68F. The two batchs came out very similar with the Wyeast smack pack starting earlier and finishing a little earlier. The biggest difference was that Wyeast 1056 produced a very slight citrus note while the WhiteLabs 001 is a bit more on the sweet/malty side of the taste profile. If you're going for the S.N. Pale Ale taste, you can't go wrong here. Anything in the "clean and hoppy" taste profile will benefit from the use of Wyeast 1056. Cheers!

OK in spite of the fact that the shipper left this on my stoop in the sun on a 95 degree day, we managed to save it before it exploded! Made a quart yeast starter and pitched it on a pale ale wort at an OG of 1.054. Yeast exploded out of the primary. Just love this stuff.

This is a great Yeast and is extremely easy to use. I did get nervous though because when I received it in the mail it was a little swollen, but midwest assured me that thats just a common occurrence with the 1056. Sure enough it all worked out fine and i had a great fermentation.

When I opened my package the pouch was already inflated. I was told that it was still fine to use because the small pouch was not broken, but it was still a pain to use, I will stick with WLP.

i did not smack well enough, did not have a starter, but we still had a full fermentation. I think that speaks of the quality and freshness of the yeast

The package was swollen when I received this, no big deal, threw it in the fridge till use. Followed instructions for use and 10 hours later the party started. I used this in my unfiltered pumpkin ale which turned out great!
I’ll take the WYEAST over white labs any day!

This is a great yeast for almost any kind of ale. Never had a problem. It is great to save and wash or to pitch on top of due to the vast spectrum of beer styles it can be used on. Nice wide temperature range.
