Great Crusher

I bought this product early this spring when I started doing all grain. I wanted to be able to buy grain in bulk -- save some money -- and make great beer. I did a lot of searching on the web for various grain mills. I think that this is one of the best because of the mix of features it offers. It has a decent size grain hopper (I bought the mill with the 7 pound hopper - not the larger 15 pound hopper. It offers full adjustability of the roller mills. And it is at a darned good price. It is not that much more than a Corona Mill, but does a better job on the crush (from what I've read). Finally, it is considerably less than the Schmidling Mill and Monster Mill. I give this one Five Stars All The Way.

I bought this mill as i was transitioning to all grain. Not only did i enjoy the quality of the crush, but I love the use of the battery operated drill for this mill. That absolutely cut the crush time down and is just really cool. I also enjoy the quality of the grains that we can get. If you purchase precrushed grains at a home brew shop, you cannot be sure the grain is fresh. Your own mill at home helps relieve you of that worry as the uncrushed grain has a much better shelf life. Just crush on brew day and you are set. The price is also great for the quality of the crush and the speed for which it is accomplished. 5 stars all the way.

Though not a big deal and certainly not a deal breaker by any means, I was slightly disappointed in this product's quality in certain areas. With no fault in shipping, my MaltMill's 7 lb. hopper came with the top edging [thin foam strip] cut trough in a couple of places. I'm not sure how it could be improved with the thin sheet metal used for the hopper. Sometime in the future I'll probably use small plastic tubing to replace it. As I said the hopper uses thin sheet metal which is good for weight but be careful not to crush it. Could easily be bent back in shape if bent. Also there are rivets that assemble the hopper so be careful when cleaning [inside]. One bushing looked as though it was set with a screw driver - however the action is smooth.
To facilitate shipping, mine did not come fully assembled. Only the hopper needed to be screwed on with two screws. Other than the above the MaltMill looks like a keeper. I take care of my stuff so it should last beyond my lifetime.

I purchased this as my first grain mill. Comes mostly assembled (you just need to tighten two screws for the hopper). You can either crank by hand (not recommended) or attach a drill for easy crushing.
The mill has worked great so far. The only upgrade I can see in my future is the larger, 15 lb, hopper.

Bought this mill to do my first all grain brew. Made short time of milling all my grains when I hooked up a power drill at a low setting and let electricty do all the work. Once its all assembled, it fits securely on a 5 gallon bucket lined with a plastic bag. Overall I think it is an investment that I will get the most out of my money on. Happy Brewing!

I purchased this so I could decide when to crush so I didn't have to brew as soon as my pre-crushed grains arrived. I also found a local source for malt so I needed a better method of crushing other than a rolling pin. I used this for the first time on AHA's Big Brew Day 2012; it did a great job and it was good exercise. I will be using a drill next time. I recommend this mill both for value and it's functionality.

Since this is my first review and first mill, I'll have to say this thing is awesome! My effiency has gone from the low 60's with grain from my lhbs to mid 80's with the Barley Crusher. It was set at .039 thou. from the factory and as said earlier my eff. went up. I'm brewing a Belgian Pale tomorrow and have set the gap now at .034. We'll see what happens. This is money well spent !!!

I went from crappy 55% efficiency with store crushed grain to 70% on my first batch by simply using the barley crusher default settings. I thought using the hand crank would be way to slow but i ran through 4 lbs in only 2 or 3 minutes. Then i got lazy and hooked up my drill.
Only minus is the o-ring that comes on it from manufacturing. I would suggest you cut it off immediately. It adds way too much friction to the point where my hand drill would seize and wouldn't turn the crank and hand cranking took a lot of strength. Then it broke off and it was super smooth.
