Better Bottle™ DryTrap Airlock

Better Bottle™ DryTrap air locks are precision check valves that have many advantages compared to liquid-filled air locks. A polished ceramic ball rests in a tapered seat to create a one-way seal. Fermentation gases can escape easily by pushing the ball up, but air is blocked from flowing in the reverse direction. DryTraps are made of an incredibly tough, proprietary type of PET that can withstand continuous service at 212° F, is easy to clean, and does not stain or transfer flavors.

Switch to "Better Bottle" Review by John T

After brewing for over 2 years and now making wine I decided to spend the money and buy the Better Bottle system. It was well worth the money and now the old equipment is outdated and just taking up space. Well worth the investment!

Good for aging of wine Review by Dobson

Product Rating:

It doesn't evaporate so if you forget to check the air lock for a few months it's not a problem. Given how long some wine are aged, it's a certainty that at some point I'd forget one of my air locks and lose a batch of wine. So this has already paid for itself in my eyes.

Aging Review by Anthony

I use this for Mead and Wine that I'm aging and don't want to forget and have the air lock dry out and my wine get Oxidized. They are expensive, but if you are aging something for years, why risk forgetting?

Better Bottle components cost a lot but this one is worth owning. It is a great air log, installs easily and can be cleaned. No regrets on this one.

Useful for long term aging of beer and wine Review by Redmond

Product Rating:

Its an excellent air lock and I use it all the time for beer and wine that needs to be aged 1-3 years. They are expensive and hard to clean though so you have to decide whats the best option for you.

Too much Review by Nadim

I like these air locks, but not at this price.
I regret buying it. What I do now for brews that I will age, like Barleywine, is to use an S-Lock for the first month, then cap it with a plug, so there is no risk of the air lock drying out.

BB Pricey, but good Review by Devlan

They tout this as a great airlock, and it is. It's easy to install (once you by the carboy adapter) and it works a treat. As with all Better Bottle kit, the price is high. The great part is that it won't suck airlock sanitizer or water into your brew. It's also harder to judge the rate of CO2 discharge since it doesn't GLOOP! like liquid based ones. The easy solution is to attach a bit of hose leading to a glass: instant flow rate meter!

Great for long fermenting! Review by Steven

I have several of these and they have saved me some disappointment. I've made some strong stouts and wines that I leave in the secondary for many months, up to 12 at times. I can use one of these airlocks and walk away from it and if I forget to check it for a couple months I have no worries about the water running out of the airlock so oxygen gets into the bottle (which I've had happen with standard airlocks)

They are a pain to clean if you forget to use a 3/8ID blowoff tube so never make that mistake (I did twice with back to back brews in different bottles and never will again)

While the lock itself is a little on the costly side the ability to forget about them or go on a trip for my photography work and not have to worry if the product is still good if I've been gone for 1-2 months.
