Great Beer Review by Jeff Portell

(Posted on 8/2/14)

Product Rating:

This was my second brew attempt and it ended up turning out great. I ended up keeping this in the fermentor for a month, that ended up being about a week longer than I intended because evidently you need bottles in order to bottle your beer and all my others were tied up in a batch of Irish Red that still hasn't quite gotten better. After being forced to drink a few twelve packs of Sierra Nevada I bottled the beer and tried one about three to four days later just for fun. It was actually already delicious as far as I was concerned. A few off flavors but it was still young. So I let it sit a few more days and started drinking it a week after bottling. It's only gotten better with time, and I am not even at the two week mark yet. Really good beer with nice notes of bannana and some clove. I am actually enjoying one as I write this review.

Well balanced wheat Review by Bryan

(Posted on 2/8/14)

Product Rating:

This kit makes a very good American style wheat, I added an extra ounce of hops during the boil. It is very well balanced, a nice, subtle sweet wheat flavor rounded out with a hint of hoppy bitterness. This is the first wheat beer I have enjoyed in a long time.

Great Wheat Beer to add flavor to Review by Dan

I purchased this kit to use as the base for a pineapple wheat beer. I added 2 whole pineapples in the secondary fermentation and pure pineapple extract when I bottled. I tasted the first bottle yesterday and it is very tasty. I will be ordering this one again!

Exactly what is says but needs time Review by AP from NJ

Product Rating:

Wait on this one. I did one week in primary, 2 weeks in secondary and 3 weeks in bottle). Tried my first one at this time and it was so-so. Waited two more weeks and it was a lot better and more carbonated. Is was a shade darker than a golden brown and its smooth. I filled up a bunch of 22 oz bottles and will wait a little longer to really enjoy this. I appreciate all of the previous feedback on this one (it is consistent with what I experienced!)

First Time Brewer Review by Ed

(Posted on 1/11/14)

Product Rating:

My first brew! I used white labs liquid ale yeast. During the initial fermentation I did not see any action in the air lock, but after a week I opened it seemed to have been fermentation. After transferring to the carboy I did see active fermenting. Bottling came up short of the expended number of bottles- 45 bottles filled. Also the beer was somewhat darker than expected. However the most important thing was it had great flavor and light enough for all beer drinkers. I would recommend this one!

Needed time Review by A Birdtown Brewer

(Posted on 12/23/13)

Product Rating:

Added one pound of honey (made it boozy. 6 ABV) and some Hallertau hops at the end of the boil. Was a fantastic, ruby-red beer, but only when left to bottle condition for 2 months. Needed that time.

Great American Wheat. Review by dafozz

(Posted on 12/16/13)

Product Rating:

I tried this kit because I wanted to do both an Apple Wheat and a Pumpkin Wheat to have for Halloween and Thanksgiving. I went with the Boundry Waters as my base due to the fact that American Wheats don't usually have the fruity overtones like their German and Belgian brothers. Other than turning out a little darker in color than what I was expecting, both brews turned out great. My tweaking consisted of using hops that are common to Apple and Pumpkin Ales rather than the hops that came with the kit. For the Pumpkin, I copied the recipe here at Midwest. It did come out a bit sweeter than I like but that can be backed off a bit on the next batch. For the Apple, pretty much the same using the Apple Ale recipe here on Midwest and using 8oz of Apple flavoring in the secondary. I also added half a pound of dextrose to boost the ABV which at first I thougt was a mistake as it gave the brew a strong cider almost viniger taste but fortunately after 5 weeks in the bottle that has melowed out to a nice sour apple overtone. I would recommend this kit as a stand alone or as a base to experiment with. I will probably be tweaking my recipes and making a few more batches even before next fall.

Worth the waite Review by The Chan Beer Depot

Product Rating:

This one did not turn me on at first (2 months in the bottle) but now that its been around for 6 months, geesh its really not to bad ..as they say. I usually go for the dark stuff but this wheat will be good for my summer, I just have to start to brew it early in the year and give it time to age..

boundry waters wheat Review by care

Product Rating:

A very good wheat. The finish is crisp and somewhat dry. The flavor is good but does not cling. No off flavors what so ever. I use Wyeast.

Hot weather during shipment Review by J.R.

(Posted on 10/1/13)

Product Rating:

I ordered this beer during a heat wave. When it arrived the Wyeast liquid yeast pack was hot. I put in the fridge and a couple days later started to brew. I smacked the Wyeast pack and waited 2 hours for the pack to swell. Nothing happened. After 4 hours nothing. I did some research and realized hot conditions and liquid yeast do not mix, but there was a possibility that the product may still be viable so I brewed anyway. After four days in the primary fermenter there was no airlock activity. I rocked the baby and the next day things staterd to bubble. I racked to a carboy for a second week and then bottled. After three weeks in the bottle when I poured into a glass I have 95% foam. I think the late fermentation resulted in overcharged carbonation.
