Seem to leak air Review by Minnesota

(Posted on 5/17/11)

Product Rating:

I have used about a dozen of these bottles and I find that half the time they leak air, which either ruins the hop flavor or carbonation and sometimes both. I haven't had any trouble with the 22 oz bottles with traditional caps and recommend those instead.

Bottom breaks easily Review by Hop Salad

Product Rating:

I received these as a gift for my birthday. When I opened the box three of the bottles were broken right at the base. We contacted Midwest and they quickly replaced them.

Well, I bottled like normal and didn't think anything of it. That was until my wife came home to find one broken and leaking all over the floor and down into the basement... It wasn't a bottle bomb it had broken right at the base like the ones I received in shipping. Now I'm paranoid! I don't know if its a design flaw or just because of the size, but now I store them in plastic tubs.

I have never had pressure problems but I've only used them twice. I read that as long as you replace the O rings every couple of batches you shouldn't have any problems.

Overall, they make bottling quicker and easier. If they weren't a gift I probably wouldn't have bought them. Put your $40 towards a kegging system.

I've used these for years with no problem. Review by John

I've been slowly building up my collection of these bottles over time and have had none of the problems described by the other reviewers. Occasionally one has to replace the gaskets to maintain a good seal but that's to be expected.

ok Review by D

Product Rating:

eh, this are ok. But like others said, they break easy. The reason is they are just so big. It's 1/4 gallon. The base is thick, but around it, just from the design; it cracks easy.

Do not carbonate with table sugar, those will blow for sure! Use corn sugars.

If they didn't break, they would make awesome bottles. But they are so pricey, plus you loose some of them. I started with 36 of them and now only have 27 left :(

Not a problem Review by Keith

I've had a dozen of these bottles for many years, and have never had a problem with them at all. Replaced the gaskets recently, but that's to be expected. I've even opened them and then came back after a few days and the beer was still carbonated.

Nice Bottles Review by Phil

My dad bought me two cases of these bottles, and they seem really nice. Two bottles arrived broken, but were replaced immediately by midwest. I typically bottle in 750's with bottle caps. These look like they'll be much simpler.

Good, but break easily and unexpecetedly Review by Jonathan

I had the same experience of bottles breaking during carbonation using the provided corn sugar.

Bombs away! Review by Craig

(Posted on 5/4/12)

Product Rating:

I had 6 of these, only 4 remain. I have never had any other bottle explode on me, but two of these have! 32 oz of a beer bomb makes a huge mess.......... not sure what the problem is, i don't do anything different with these and i only use the corn sugar to carbonate. Probably won't be in hurry to buy more

I love these Review by Mark

Product Rating:

Yes, they are a bit expensive to start, but over time they are worth the price. If you are going to bottle I think these are the way to go. It really makes bottling easier both because they are larger and so easy to close up. I've been using mine for several years with no problems. No breakage at all. If you don;t drink the whole bottle just cap em back up and they hold just fine for a couple of days.

Very pleased with these bottles. Purchase the 32 oz size after seeing how nice the 16 oz were. Great product!
