The flavor of our Castle Brown Ale is slightly nutty and sweet. The off-white head is finished with a mild dry aftertaste. Our ingredients for this recipe include 6 lb. of Golden Light Dried Malt extract, 13 oz. Crystal 50-60L, 3 oz. Chocolate malt, 1 oz. Challenger, 1 oz. Kent Goldings pellet hops, grain bag, priming sugar and yeast.

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts, but it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Spot on clone Review by Allen

Product Rating:

I like New Castle but can't really drink a lot of it. It's just a hair sweeter than the original. I drink one every now and then when I want something different.

Clone or No Clone? Review by Stephen

(Posted on 2/24/14)

Product Rating:

It's been a long time since drinking a New Castle, so I can't tell how this rates as a clone. Since it was supposed to be a clone, I did not add anything to the recipe and followed the directions with one exception. There was supposed to be 1 tsp of Irish Moss in the kit. Mine did not come with any Irish Moss. I reasoned that it was a clarifying agent and shouldn't affect the taste very much, so I made it anyways. It as described: the color is a bit lighter than amber, it is slightly sweet and very mild.

As good as the original. Review by Sean

Newcastle is one of my favorite standbys when nothing else looks good. I was excited to try and make my own and this kit did not disappoint. This may be my favorite kit to date.

Good and easy batch Review by Tommy K

Product Rating:

Very easy to make. I had many many compliments on the beer and it did not last long. It tasted very much like Newcastle which I was a little surprised about. Pleasantly surprised because I thought it was actually a little better.

Very good beer kit. Beer has a nice full body with a slightly toasted and nutty flavor. Color is a nice brown. Hops are well balanced and add a nice flavor.

Very nice brown beer with a slightly nutty finish. I like it better than 'new castle" by a long shot!

This was my first brew and I loved it. It has a great color and a full flavor but finishes with a nice crisp. I would highly recomend this brew.

Product Rating:

Dark amber beer kit that has a sweet finish. I could taste just a touch of chocolate in mine, but it was fleeting and hard to detect after a few sips. Very good kit!

Castle Brown Review by Jesse

Product Rating:

This was my first brew ever. Came out great, but let this one settle out for an extra few weeks. Any fan of brown ale will be a fan. I did modify the recipe a little, so i can not vouch on how similar it is to Newcastle. Either way it did not last. Cheers!

Very good beer, especially for extract clone! Very close to the real thing. Even the foam it produced was good!
