Pepto soda anyone?

Opened the container up and it smelled a lot like pepto bismol, I hoped the smell would go away once it was carbonated and chilled. Poured a glass and the smell was still there and, even worse, it tasted like the stuff. Pepto is great for when I'm sick but I'm not about to drink it for the taste.

This has been my favorite soda extract for about 3 months now. I've made a couple of root beers, colas, cream soda and ginger ale. I used 2oz extract, 4 gal water and 6 cups white cane sugar, kegged for 3 weeks at 10psi and it turned out excellent. I saved the remaining extract in the fridge in the original packaging and made a second batch when the first ran out. I dinged the price rating because the pkg I received only had 3 oz of extract (not 4oz, as advertised). I would have called Midwest, but I didn't realize it was short until 2 months later, when I went to make a second batch. In response to "...smells like pepto bismal", I never thought of it that way but I suppose it does in a way. I guess if you take pepto a lot, and you're a "glass if half empty" type of person, then you might not enjoy it as I have.

This is very good, my first batch I added the 8cups of sugar, that was too much sweet, So I have cut back to 6 cups and found that to be just right. I have not bottled this, I have just kegged it each time, this is great Summer time drink for your not Beer drinkin Friends.

This product makes two 2-1/2 gallon batches or a 5 gallon batch. Only takes minutes to mix then either bottle or keg (2 days at 30# then adjust for flow ~7#). I found if you fill an empty white labs yeast bottle it is exactly half the mix. Perfect for storing the second half for the next batch. Tastes good and is a great way for kids to experience making and drinking a "home brew"!

While not my favorite, it's still a good recipe. My advice is to be careful how much sugar you add. It's easy to make it too sweet and overwhelm the other flavors. This tastes different from some cheapo store bought soda, so don't think it's a bad kit just because it doesn't taste like Walmarts Root beer.

We all liked it

I made this with my kids, and everyone liked it. I used less sugar so it wouldn't be too sweat. The flavor is good, it doesn't taste like some cheap artificial flavor like I feared.

This is great birch beer. I think this is a really good deal, just add your own sugar and yeast, and bottle it. 5 gallons for $8.50 (a buck for sugar and I have plenty of yeast from my brewing), for excellent soda is good value, and it's so simple to make.

This product is great for making an authentic tasting birch beer soda. It is very easy to make and great for kids and anyone who does not does not drink beer or wine. The pouch is enough to make 5 gallons of soda, at a very reasonable price. Anyone can do this!
