Good but the cherry threw me back to childhood cough syrup.

The cherry flavoring is a syrup that will hearken back memories of gagging on cough syrup. This is the only kit I've bought that I haven't liked. Don't expect anything like a Kriek to come from this kit.

Would only make a fruity beer as a compromise. The wife wanted it.

A few years ago I happened to try a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, which my wife loved and I tolerated since it didn't make me vomit as it was a very light cherry flavor. I ordered a filter system and counter pressure bottle filler and in order to shut the wife up about that cost I agreed to make her a cherry wheat. I opted for the White Labs upgrade (highly recommended) and used only half of the cherry extract (VERY highly recommended). What I got is a weissbeer with just a hint of cherry flavor, I can actually drink like 2 or 3 of these before I have to guzzle an IPA to feel like a man again. Bottom line is: the wife LOVES it, so I probably will have to brew this again for her. Next time I will have to bottle it instead of kegging it so it doesn't take up my cornie keg, I only have one line.

not very cherry-y but tasty and satisfying

I had a great time brewing my first batch of beer and this one was super-forgiving and tastes great. I'm going to have a bottle of it tonight and look forward to it, knowing that I made it with my own hands. I tend to make 10 projects out of one, and this beer was simple and came out great without any unforeseen hassles. The cherry flavoring is rather cough syrup-ish but rather than detract from the taste it just kind of bowed out.

Not bad, not great

Based on the previous review, I only added half of the 4 ounces of cherry extract to the kit. It's not bad, but not great. If you are looking for a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat clone, this won't even come close, but it is a good value for the price, and the beer is drinkable, as long as you don't go crazy with the cherry extract.

Good, better with age...

I brewed this and after 2 weeks of fermenting and 2 weeks of bottle conditioning, it turned out pretty good. Unlike the previous reviews, at first I thought it could use a little more cherry flavoring, mine was more subtle on the back end. I have found that the cherry becomes more prevalent if you let it age in the bottle longer. I think the cherry flavoring is fine, not cough-syrupy as others have said. I steeped my Carapils for 30 mins, and upgraded to the Wyeast Propagator.

I tried the Sam Adams cherry wheat and loved it. I bought this kit hoping for even a resemblance of that beer and its not even close. This is a moderately good wheat beer kit with a hit of cherry flavoring. The cherry flavor does get better with age, but it never became a great beer. There are a lot of great wheat beer kits on this website, this is not one of them.

Cherry Wheat? Not yet...

The Cherry Wheat is now working on week #3 in the bottle and it still doesn't have the cherry pop that I expected. I'll wait a few more weeks and crack another one. Jury is still out...

Use real cherries , not the extract

Many Extracts taste artificial, so I prefer to use real fruit. What I did was use a can of Vintners Harvest Fruit Cherry Puree. I added it during the secondary. The taste was mild but real, not artificial.
A nice brew that I will brew again next summer.

The cherry flavor is subtle as well as artificial tasting. Thinking my next batch will be cherry puree like another reviewer suggested.
Good wheat beer base, just the flavoring is not that great.

You Won't Regret Making This Beer

I have been making mead for almost 2 years. This was my 2nd beer kit from Midwest. After 2 weeks in the bottle this beer is VERY similar to Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. I would say that the only real difference is that this beer has more body and has a heavier wheat flavor. I used all 4 oz of cherry flavoring and I feel like it turned out great. I will be making this again for sure.
