Chocolate Covered BEAVR Nutz ALL-GRAIN Kit

•• ATTENTION: THE INGREDIENTS OF THIS KIT HAVE CHANGED ••

We are bringing this kit back by popular demand. The kit does not include the two 6.5oz jars of peanut butter powder required to make the recipe, but can be purchased separately here. You can always omit the peanut butter powder, it will still make an excellent chocolate stout. Due to the oil and fat content, we do not recommend using regular peanut butter. The powder is a key ingredient.

The guys at Midwest encountered this beer out at the National Home Brewers Conference earlier this year. Upon the first taste this appears to be a great stout, but then your palate gets a surprise assault. After the familiar stout flavors cross your palate you are presented with a peanut blast that lingers on your tongue. The combination is one you will not soon forget. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Here are a few words from the creators of Beavr Nutz:

The Brewing Enthusiasts of the Antelope Valley Region (BEAVR) is a homebrewing club from Lancaster, CA. BEAVR was founded in 2009 when a few friends with a passion for brewing decided to share their beers at the Southern California Homebrewers Festival. The club now boasts almost two dozen members and holds monthly meeting on the first Friday of each month. BEAVR has become a great outlet for homebrewers of the Antelope Valley to share ideas and techniques to improve the quality of their beers. The club also prides itself on pushing the envelope of creativity with both their beer recipes as well as their beer names (It Burns When IPA, Me So Honey, Buggered BEAVR…).

How about brewing a peanut butter cup beer? The idea was first presented to the club by Roger Morrissey. Roger’s idea sounded both challenging and delicious. In February 2010, the club’s three founding members, Street Beguhl, Roger Morrissey, and Juan Salcedo, came together to brew an Imperial Stout as a base for this peanut butter cup beer. After the addition of cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, and peanut butter powder, the beer was aptly named Chocolate Covered BEAVR Nutz. BEAVR Nutz has been a real crowd pleaser at the Southern California Homebrewers Festival the past two years and was a hit at the 2011 National Homebrewers Conference. We hope you enjoy the coating mouth feel and creamy aftertaste of your nuts!

Pretty good Review by Jamie

Product Rating:

Made two batches of this, one with the peanut butter powder and one without. The price does get up there once you add in the extra ingredients. I felt that the peanut flavor was very mild, and the chocolate was subdued as well. There was a lot of coffee and dark roasted malt flavor though. I would call this one more of a dark strong beer with a little chocolate thrown in. It's pretty good, just not what I was expecting.

I was really hoping this beer would taste like a peanut butter cup, but the coffee flavour really takes over. Not too much chocolate or peanut flavour came through.

It's not bad just not what I was hoping to get!

The brew is fermenting now. Grain bill was around 16# and the wyeast sat for two days before use. Very active fermenting process.
Had to buy peanut butter separate not too bad. From the aroma during samples and the mash it is sweet but the roasted malt stands out the most. Will post follow up when conditiobingo is complete

Straight forward brew process . cocoa powder ,cocoa nibs and peanut butter powder go in during the ferment. Nice Chocolate malt taste with just enough peanut butter coming through in the finish . Best with a slice of chocolate cake (hold the milk).

Roasty Review by Kris

I decided not too add the peanut butter, and this turned out to be a great chocolate stout. I also added the chocolate when I racked to secondary and left it for 4 weeks, which brought a lot more chocolate out. This is a very delicious roasty stout in my opinion.

Great kit. I was able to find the powdered peanut butter at a local specialty food store and I added the optional cocoa powder. It ended up a great stout with a hint of peanut butter. Brewed for Christmas - friends and family cleaned me out.
