Added just a half pound for my nut brown. Gave it a beautiful mahogany brown color. My friends could notice a hint of chocolate from just a little half brown. Used it for an adapted American Brown Ale. Highly recommend this grain.

Best chocolate roast malt!

This malt is definitely the best quality you can buy online and in store. Many local stores around me charge 3$+ a pound for a cheaper quality than Briess. You really only need about 8 oz for any 5 gallon recipe otherwise it becomes overwhelming. I purchase it in bulk and add as needed when making stouts. I've added 8oz of this to a peanut butter coffee stout and it gave just the right amount of color and richness.

I love this stuff! It adds a rich, chocolatey (of course) aroma and taste to any beer, but is especially great in porters, stouts, and specialty brews. It smells great straight from the package, and has never disappointed!

lighter than the British chocolate malt

I like Briess Chocolate malt because it is a little lighter than the British varieties which I think can be a bit overwhelming at times. I buy this for any stout or porter. Has enough color to get a nice dark beer and enough flavor to come through without being overwhelming.

This malt is one third of what I pay at my LHBS, while probably still being fresher stock than what they have on hand. Outstanding. I recommend this for any brown, amber or marzen.

WONDERFUL flavor and color!

Oh man... this stuff adds a rich, malty, and slightly nutty flavor to your ale. The color is phenomenal. I have used this in a hazelnut stout and a red ale. Adds a subtle sweetness that is slightly bitter in a coffee kinda way. It's dirt cheap, so why not keep some on hand to experiment? You will not be disappointed.

Keep it on hand

With the low price of this chocolate malt, I keep it on hand. As others mentioned, it allows for some darkening without getting the overpowering flavor.
I even snuck about 4oz into a Saison I brewed last year and it came out fantastic. I'm beginning to look through my recipe box to find other places I can add this fantastic malt.

I use this in my chocolate stout recipes. It works like a charm every time. It adds a rich brown color and a clean chocolate finish on the pallet. I recommend.

For my taste this is more about roast character and nutty like, never much chocolate. But a great grain i use in all my porters and stouts none the less.
