This is a good book, but its geared towards making barrels not buckets of cider. Its got information on building your apple orchard and equipment, like a press. If you have a farm, this is a good book.

The book on cider making by Annie Prolux has been extremely helpful and a lot of fun to read. The book covers everything in detail. The author discusses root stock selection, soil fertility, where to get apples, planting, etc, everything you need to think about when considering your apple supply. There is a step-by-step outline of the process, so you can 'jump right in', but then proceeds with lots of additional information.

I like hard cider and wanted to learn how to make it. This book helped me out. It covers all the basics and has a lot of more advanced information. A lot of it is too detailed for me at this point but I will reread it as I continue with cider making.

Those who own an orchard will get a lot more out of this book because a lot of that material is not otherwise applicable. Good all around discussion of may topics like apple cultivation, the selection of types of apples for making various types of cider, an overview of the pressing and brewing process, an overview of common cider , sanitation problems, how to bottle, etc. There is a lot in this book and it will take a few readings to absorb it all.

Well presented and clear. It covers everything in depth. A lot of it will be too detailed for novices but will make sense when you get more experience.

This is a great book, but it's really aimed at those cider makers with their own
orchards who produce cider in barrel size batches. If you make 5 gallon ciders you can enjoy this book, but you can't apply all of it. You will still learn some of the advanced techniques, so its still a worthwhile addition to your library.
