More about apples than hard cider Review by Sample

(Posted on 3/1/14)

Product Rating:

Its a very good book at what it covers, but it's not a book on making hard cider.
Its geared towards growing apples and making cider, and does a good job.

Apple Science Review by Jason

Product Rating:

It's not a recipe book, not a book on making hard cider. It's a book on growing apples for making into cider. The author covers what your orchard should be like, apple acidity, and many technical aspects of apple growing and cider making.
It's a good supplement but not a substitute for a book on making hard cider.
Hard cider is easy to make, but harder to make well, since the blending is what makes one cider good and another great.

All about apples Review by Huber

(Posted on 12/16/13)

Product Rating:

The book is about apples and how to grow them and making presses and cider. It's very good for that. 5 stars.
It's not a book about making hard cider even though it has some coverage. If you want a book on making hard cider this is not the book for you.

All about apples not so much on making good hard cider Review by OD

(Posted on 10/4/13)

Product Rating:

The authors teach you about a lot that has to do with apples, not just cider. Its fairly comprehensive. If you have an apple orchard or want to grow one this is a great book. For hard cider making it doesn't really go beyond the basics.

Id rate it a 5 if you grow apples, and a 2 if you want to make hard cider

Not quite enough on hard cider making Review by Parker

(Posted on 9/8/13)

Product Rating:

There is a lot of information on a variety of topics, but not enough in my opinion on making hard cider. I still recommend this book, but you will need another one for advanced hard cider making.

Great for Cider Review by Adam

(Posted on 7/22/13)

Product Rating:

This is a great book if you are interested in making cider, but it is not for the beginning brewer. I would recommend this book to anyone who can successfuly make an extract batch of beer paying specific attention to cleanliness and sanitation.

Not that helpful for making hard cider Review by Chris

(Posted on 7/15/13)

Product Rating:

This book is about setting up an orchard and getting equipment. These is very little on making cider. There is just a brief mention of tanins and acidity and blending of different juices form different apples. The amount of useful information for how to make good cider is probably less than 7 pages.

The information it contains on setting up an orchard is interesting so it's not a bad book. It's just not useful for making hard cider.

For the micro-cider brewer Review by Nadim

(Posted on 5/20/13)

Product Rating:

This is a great book, but it's really aimed at those cider makers with their own
orchards who produce cider in barrel size batches. If you make 5 gallon ciders you can enjoy this book, but you can't apply all of it. You will still learn some of the advanced techniques, so its still a worthwhile addition to your library.

Advanced Cider making Review by Ed

Product Rating:

Well presented and clear. It covers everything in depth. A lot of it will be too detailed for novices but will make sense when you get more experience.

For those who have their own apple orchard Review by Sam

(Posted on 3/4/13)

Product Rating:

Those who own an orchard will get a lot more out of this book because a lot of that material is not otherwise applicable. Good all around discussion of may topics like apple cultivation, the selection of types of apples for making various types of cider, an overview of the pressing and brewing process, an overview of common cider , sanitation problems, how to bottle, etc. There is a lot in this book and it will take a few readings to absorb it all.
