Copper Immersion Wort Chiller

$69.99

Product Number: 6680

Availability: In stock

Cools your wort in minutes. 25' copper tubing. It is important to cool beer (wort) to yeast pitching temperature in the shortest possible time. By putting a wort chiller into a brew kettle at the end of the boil and running cool water through the chiller, it is possible to cool the wort below 80 degrees in 12 to 15 minutes. This reduces the lag time between the boil and active yeast fermentation.

Comes with tubing that has a garden hose attachment on it to easily allow you to hook up your chiller to an outdoor faucet. You can also use a faucet adapter in conjunction with this unit to attach your wort chiller to an indoor faucet. The faucet adapter will not attach to a faucet that has a sprayer unit as part of it.

Approximate Dimensions:10" tall at the top coil, 13" to the bend for the copper inlet/outlet.

This works great! Review by Gary L

This is very good quality with a very reasonable price and a real time saver on brew day. Very little time to get your wort temperature down. Would not hesitate to purchase this again.

a necessary product Review by trey

Every brewer needs a chiller of some sort, and this one is great for what it is.

I've used it a few times and it chills the beer to pitchable rates in about 15-20 minutes.

My only complaint is with the tubing. Once you put the chiller into the boil the last 10 or so minutes (to sanitize it and such), the residual water in the piping and tubes will evaporate and make the vinyl tubes very soft and flimsy, they will constrict themselves from gravity alone.

One brew day the vinyl tube accidentally touched the stand of my burner while chilling and melted before I knew what happened. Don't worry, I saved the brew by holding my thumb on it long enough to finish. The tubes were simple enough to replace and I used some higher quality tubing that is more heat resistant (also longer so that it's easier to manage).

The fasteners used to attach the tubing are crimped on, meaning you can't easily take the tubing off and cannot put them back on. I replaced them with some fasteners that used screws to tighten onto the copper. It made for a much better fitting and you can easily replace or adjust the tubing.

As an aside, the exit water is perfect for cleaning stuff up.

Works great and dramatically cuts down on cooling time. One of the plastic tubing connections over the copper was a bit too close to the connection, which let some water our when first used. This was easily fixed by just loosening the connection, sliding in and then tightening with a screwdriver.

Worked great. Don't know how I lived without it. Got the copper instead of the stainless steel because it appeared to be better quality from the picture and they have been making the cooper style forever and should have it down pat. Seem to have reduced the chore of cooking the ingredients about 40%.

Beats a Snowbank Review by Adam

Decided to start brewing beer after having a try at wine, and wanted to do it the best way I could with the budget I had. This was worth the money. My first beer was an APA, and it is crystal clear with absolutely no haze. This thing cools for me in about 20 min.

I did have an issue with the clamps. Tested out the chiller in my basin sink after tightening the clamps and it worked fine without any leaks, but it leaked when I used it to chill my wort. Guessing the tubing shrunk a little from the heat of the boiling wort (I sanitized the chiller in the last 10 minutes of boil). Lesson: don't be me, just make sure it's good and tight. Brew was fine, but I spent a few weeks worrying about contamination. Getting the chiller with the garden hose fittings might be a better idea if you plan to sanitize in your boil. Tubing won't warp from the heat of the steam.

This was my first experience with immersion chilling of wort, and I can't imagine why I ever wrestled with ice and snow to try to cool my wort. Well worth the investment!
