Chocolate Cream Stout Review by C.H.

(Posted on 10/4/14)

Product Rating:

Wanted to make a Chocolate Stout but couldn't find a kit on this site to take advantage of the free shipping, So I decided to tweak this one. Added 8oz of chocolate malt to the steeping grains as well as 2oz Hershey's Cocoa powder at 15min. Transferred to secondary onto 4oz of Cocoa Nibs soaked in vodka. Tasted at transfer, and it already had a good chocolate/coffee flavor. I think this is going to turn out amazing after a few months of aging.

Stoustanding! Review by jrod

It's a great recipe. I manipulated the preboil volume to 6 gallons but other than that brewed according to the recipe. It finished high on the gravity even after a month in primary but it is still delicious. It starts with a roasted, grainy texture and finishes smooth and sweet. Brew it, now.

This is a great price and produces a quality beer. It is great for beginners. I have been brewing for 10 years and I have returned to this beer many times. It is probably my favorite because of the taste and consistency. I noticed that this beer produces consistent results with every brew. You cant go wrong. Enjoy!

Sweet and bitter stout Review by Jason

Product Rating:

Nice combination of sweetness from the lactose and bitterness form the roast barley. Smooth and filling. I like to have just one, nursing it along for a while. This isn't a beer I drink a few at a time.

Great Beer Review by Tim

Turned out great using the liquid yeast. If you like beers similar to Guiness this is a great place to start. It was creamy without being too thick, and had a light sweetness to it.

Nice sweet stout Review by Koosman

Product Rating:

Nice stout, not overly bitter, the sweetness works well in this recipe. A great beer to drink after shoveling snow. It's smoother than most stouts and can appeal to those who normally don't care for stout.

I am a big fan of Milk Stouts, and this kit ranks as one of the best ones I've tried. I highly recommend adding 8oz of Chocolate Malt (Briess).

Good, make sure you ferment completely Review by strib

Product Rating:

The one I had out of my batch tasted great. After 3 weeks in primary thought I would be safe to bottle with the supplied 5 oz of priming sugar. Made the mistake of not taking FG. On past batches have had no issues with not taking FG after 3 weeks. Ended up with a shattered bottle after 4 weeks of collaring. The rest were dumped was not going to press my luck. Lesson learned and switching to kegging for certain batches.

It turned out ok, smooth and easy to drink, When my in-laws visit they like to drink it. I have it occasionally though I'm more of a Pale Ale guy myself.

I just finished drinking this kit. I put an extra half of lb of malt extract and used a hob bag. This was a great beer for the transition of Summer to Fall. Not too dark not too light. It felt great to drink after raking leaves. Anyway, the taste was fantastic with the extra malt. I would do this kit again!
