Unusable

I had the same experience as the last review: my first brew with it went well but it gives impossible readings now and can't be trusted for a moment (my kitchen is not 180 degrees fahrenheit!). A waste of every dollar, and I hate the fact that getting a new one keeps slipping my mind!

Hey it reads 168 in my kitchen while the house says it is 76. This thing is no good after very few uses.

Workedl for about 6-7 batches now reads 100 F in my house.
Can not buy probe seperately. Not a good deal. If you go digital, spend some more money and buy a good one, that has replacement parts available.

OK - takes temp

This worked - once I removed the white protective cap on the probe. Temp was reasonably quick with the sensor. Next time I'll probably upgrade and get a thermometer that stays in place. Overall, reasonable purchase.

Not instant

Instant is false advertising. True it displays a reading right away but you need to wait as it increases to a steady state reading. Might as well hold the mercury thermometer in the wort until it stabilizes. Only used it for one brew and I hope I have better reliability than the reviews above.

waste of money

Worked fine for a few brews. Not "instant", must keep it held in the liquid until it reaches steady state. Now it reads only LLL, which I figured meant needs a new battery. New battery inserted still just LLL. For the price I expected better quality.

Seems to be a trend here

It is cost effective! I guess now that I got the good things out of the way I'll start ripping on it as well. Very similar results as the other posts. Maybe it is user error, accidentally getting the cord wet, maybe stem from the mash getting in the wires, or maybe it's just a piece of junk. The one thing you really want to work correctly to control your mash is your thermometer so I guess I'll be getting a nicer one in a bit here.
I did make it maybe a dozen batches on this one which seems to be more than most but still, it's done now.

Accurate mash temperatures

I keep the probe in the mash so I know that I'm at the correct temperature. Don't let the probe fall all the way in and the cord get wet. It seems accurate compared to a glass thermometer.
