A little spendy but definitely worth more Review by jim

This clone is absolutely spot on. Which makes sense since they said they worked with Surly. My buddies say they would be hard pressed to distinguish this from the real thing. This is obviously this is one of my favorites and I try to have this on tap at all times.

Ferocious IPA Review Review by Lee

Product Rating:

Just opened my first bottle after 30 days . It is truely smooth Ale with a excellent hop flavor. I plan to bottle condition for an additional month to even improve it's smoothness. Racking on top was easy. One of the best I've done over past 18 months.

Favorite Kit Review by Sam H

This is hands down the best Kit I have ever brewed. At first I was worried that it had too much hops, but it turned out perfect. This is my new favorite kit.

Tasty Brew Review by Abomben

Product Rating:

This is a good kit, best I have brewed yet! I don't think it will last long. The fermentation was wild. My blow off tub got clogged over night and when the pressure built up enough to clear the clog, it sprayed my kitchen like hose turned on full blast. Despite the mess (next time I will use a larger tube), the beer is fantastic.

One of Midwest's best! Review by Jim

Product Rating:

I've brewed many IPA's, both extract and all grain, and this is one of the most popular I've made. I enjoy this beer as much as the Hop Head Double IPA. I would definitely recommend filtering at all transfer stages; there's a lot of hop sludge to filter out!

An IPA for people that don't like IPAs Review by EtchyLives

Product Rating:

First off, this beer is fantastic. It comes out with a plethora (Jefe, what is a 'plethora?') of delicious hop flavors. The dry-hopping results in a sweetness and lightness that belie the fact that there are 6 OUNCES OF HOPS IN THIS BEER. And it doesn't taste like it at all. If you've ever had a Heavy Seas Loose Cannon this tastes very close to that beer. I am not in Surly's distribution area so I can't compare to the Furious but the Ferocious is very close (and possibly better than) my go-to IPA, the Loose Cannon (for those not from the east coast, find yourself some Loose Cannon. It's good).

So why is it so good? Because it has a billion and one hop flavors to include citrus-y nose notes, some nice and light flavors up front, and fantastic aftertaste. This is not like a heavy Stone Bastard or Rogue Yellow Snow, this is something that is full of hops but people that don't prefer to be kicked in the face with hops would like to drink. This is good. I'll get it again. I'll use the Headwaters Strain again. I will also pick up some Simcoe leaf hops from my local again since I really like the flavor from those in the dry-hopping. Buy it. Brew it. Drink it. Love it.

Terrific IPA Review by Hank

I love the hops. Primary 2 weeks, secondary 2 weeks, bottled or 2 weeks. I've brewed it 3 times. If you like hoppy beer, this is a good kit.

Check your IBU Math Review by OscarShitley

(Posted on 11/27/13)

Product Rating:

First of, this is an excellent recipe, with lots of high quality ingredients at a great price. However, I'm peeved about two things:

1. You gave me 6.6 lbs of amber LME and 3.3. lbs of gold LME, not the other way around, as was called for by the recipe.

2. The 83 IBU reading that Midwest provides assumes a 6 gallon boil. Very few extract brewers actually use a boil this large. If you don't use that much water, then much of the whopping 6 oz. of hops are wasted. For example, if you're a "top of the stove," 2 gallon boiler, it drops the IBU rating down to around 28. In that case, you don't have beer so much as you have hop juice.

So damned good Review by Macaille

My husband is a Surly Furious junkie...and since we've moved to Florida he can't get it anymore. We bought this clone kit thinking...yeah, maybe it'll be alright but will never be like Surly Furious. Wrong!!!!! It's so close it's scary! The very SECOND it was ready to be uncapped he drank too much of it (ha!!!). It's now gone and we need to reorder so he can get his Furious/Ferocious fix! Best kit we've brewed, hands down.
