One of My favorite Local Beers

I'm brewing it right now and can't wait to share it. This is one of my favorite local brews and I've had success with other Midwest clone kits in the past, so I can't imagine this will be a disappointment. If it is, I'll revise my review.
The price is a little higher than most kits, but the kit's content seem to justify the increased price. I'm always looking for a good deal and wish the price were a little lower.

Great Imperial Red

I left this brew in the primary for 2 weeks and the secondary for 3 weeks. I have it conditioning for 5 weeks so far in bottles. They recommend 6 months conditioning (because of the high alc. %) but wanted to give it a try. So far I really enjoyed the beer. Yes it will be better once it ages but so far it tastes good. Going to drink one a week while it ages ;-).
The only reason I gave it 4 stars for Price is by the time you get the kit home with shipping it's around $60 for 2 cases which is still a good price for a great beer. I would by this kit again maybe with Pacific Ale Yeast from White Labs.
If your unsure about this kit just pull the trigger and pick it up. Give it at least 4 weeks in the bottle before you try it and you will see why you spent the $60(if you have to ship it). Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Best Beer Yet

This beer would have had five stars across the board but it's on the high side of expensive after you add in the shipping charges.
It is the best tasting beer in my two years of brewing. It starts with a very smooth malt flavor, light, not heavy so it's refreshing on a hot day. The hop aroma is not strong but noticeable and the hop flavor begins right after the malt and lasts throughout the draught. It's high in alcohol, 8.51 ABV, but the flavor overcomes the alcohol so it doesn't taste medicinal. This is an awesome beer.
One last note - The directions indicate that it takes about 6-8 weeks before it's drinkable but the box says a minimum of 6 months. This beer is great after 8 weeks but I'll have to brew it again to see how much better it is with aging as my brew club is having a taste test this weekend and I know it will all be gone.

Just Get It!

Debated on getting this beer because the price is a little higher than your average kit. Well I am glad I did because it is bueno. I gave the beer five stars across the board because it is that good.
I used the White Labs California Ale yeast, 2 weeks primary, 3 weeks secondary and kegged it. Tasted good immediately after force carbonation. Tossed the keg in my temp controlled freezer at 37 degrees and tried to forget about it. It has been six weeks and what a difference that has made. It is going to be really tough to let this age, I have a feeling it will probably be gone before it reaches 4-5 months. Out of fifteen or so batches this is my favorite. It is just delicious!

I will make this for years to come.

I am a fan of a good Irish Red but after few years of home brewing I just cant find as much pleasure in some of the simple kits. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy them but after tasting some of the other kits that produce complex flavors, a simple Irish Red is harder to justify making. This Imperial Red reminds me of an Irish Red but has all the flavor you expect from an Imperial Ale. The Imperial Stout, this Imperial Red. and the Belgium Triple are my favorite kits from Midwest Brewing. I will make more of this bear whenever I am even close to running out.

One of the best kits ever

If you like Rye, this is a kit for you! I have had it in the keg for two weeks and so I expect it to only improve with age. Very balanced kit , carmel creamy head, not too hoppy even with the 5 oz of hops, and the higher alc % is not overpowering. I have made over 20 of the Midwest kits and they are all quality kits, but this is at the top of the list. Somewhat pricey, but lot of quality ingredients make up for it.

This was a great brew. It has a very intense flavor. It has a nice hop character that's balanced well with the rest of the beer. I got a lot of compliments on this particular brew. This was my most recent brew and I think I'd like to try it again. This one is a must-try.

Just the right blend for me. Crisp, hoppy, some maltiness, and strong ABV. The flavors are intriguing and deliciously satisfying. One of my favorites after brewing with your kits for over two years. I personally prefer a more hoppy beer, and this red rye imperial IPA is a winner.

I gave it 5 months to age since it's a high alcohol beer. Smooth and tasty, this has a mix of nice flavors. I used the Wyeast 1272 yeast, and I oxygenated the wort with my O2 system to help the yeast out, and they did, because they didn't stall.

Had never had a rye beer so gave this a shot. Two weeks primary and 2 secondary.Used 2 s-05`s. If you like hoppy beers, you will love this.If you like malty beers you will love this. Its a perfect balance between the two.Taste is almost lager like crisp. That white head on top of that amber color is striking. Even friends who dont like my big beers, loved this one. Next time I will use a hop sack for the dry hopping. Thanks MW
