Ginger Beer Soda

We made a big ol' batch of this and tossed in some fresh ginger for that extra kick. Good stuff!

I followed the recipe for the amount of sugar to use to make 4 gallons in a keg and force-carbonate, and to my taste (and those of my family) it was un-drinkably sweet. This wasn't refreshing soda, it was syrup.

I'd like to say I liked the taste, but frankly all I could taste was sweet/sugar, so I threw it out.

I'll try again, with 1/3 to 1/4 the sugar. Perhaps less.

its okay, i don't like the recipe it comes with. I would perhaps add fresh ginger, lemons, limes, and perhaps honey to the sugar, then it would probably be more complex. if i try again i will add a recipe. overall, for kids its okay. I would still reduce sugar and water volume to say, 3 gallons even then.

We cut back the sugar by a third and added ginger. The soda came out pretty good, with a bite. Its surprisingly easy to make, just follow the directions. Overall it was fun to make, and the results satisfactory.

I thought it was going to have a "lemony" flavor, like ginger...I was wrong. Thankfully we only do 1 gallon at a time, so I was able to mix it with another extract to get it to our liking.

The recipe calls for too much sugar, so I cut it back by a third, even then it was sweet enough. The taste is alright, right in the middle of the spectrum. If I were to make it again I'd use some ginger, to spice it up. Overall it was easy to make this soda.

We made some of this Ginger Beer and added real ginger and it was awesome. It tastes so much better than any soda I've had before. Easy to make, and is ready in a few weeks. We used less sugar per the suggestions here.
