Definitely Met My Needs Review by Ken

Product Rating:

I had originally ordered a Polar Ware BrewRite pot, but was contacted by customer service and advised that they could subsitiute this one for less with the same features--a no-braiiner. I use it to cook a batch of red beans for a fundraiser here in Tennessee. A previous loaner pot was basically a turkey fryer, and the beans burned due to a single burner and a thin bottom. Last year my beans turned out fantastic due to the thick bottom on this pot--no sign of burning or even sticking! Just nice even heating across the whole bottom. Thanks for offering me a solution to a headache. The quality is commercial-grade, even the lid is high-tolerance.

The pot was huge and good quality. Review by zac

I used it to brew a five gallon batch of beer and it had more than enough room. It would be best to use this pot with a gas burner. The pot is extreamly large for a stove top but I stiill tried it and it worked great, heated evenly and got the job done. The quality is great and I plan on using it to brew some all grain beer, it will have plenty of room to do all the grain and water needed at one time.

Worth it Review by John

Product Rating:

This pot is definitely worth the price for the high quality. I would reccomend you step up to this rather than trying out any cheapo pots you find elsewhere on the web. Heavy duty and perfect for boilding 10 gallong brews with no scorching yet. Reccomend using a propane burner outdoors vs. a stove top as it will take forever due to the large size.

Only kettle you will ever need Review by Colby

Bought this kettle about a month ago and had Midwest drill me holes for brewmometer and ball valve as well. Item arrived in perfect condition and ready to brew. Wow, what an upgrade from my aluminum 30 qt pot that I started brewing with. Will never need to purchase another kettle again!

Great Pot! Review by Steve

I bought this pot for catching wort from my first pot. It replaces the 5 other smaller pots I was using before. The pleasant surprise was that this pot was just as good as my first and after catching the wort, I used it to boil!

Good heavy duty pot! Review by Steve

I bought this pot originally for catching the wort off of my original 60 quart pot during lautering. It was to replace several pots of smaller size. I was impressed with the bottom being layered so I tried it for the boil. No scorching! Saved me 20-30 minutes of tiime during the brewing process where I would have been cleaning my original pot to do the boil!

Definitely a Money Saver Review by Mark

I got this kettle to use as a HLT to supply my strike water and to sparge from, although it could certainly be used for the boil kettle. The thick SS-aluminum-SS bottom sandwich distributes heat very well. The smaller version would work great in extract brewing to prevent scorching of the wort.

Quality is good, not great. Mine came 1/2" out-of-round at the top. The lid still fits, but it is obviously not a perfect fit. I suspect this occurred in shipping, either from China (place of manufacture) or from Midwest Supplies to my home. The rim is folded over to increase strength, whereas the Blichmann kettles have a fully rounded over rim. This may have contributed to the out-of-roundness issue.

The handles are attached by through riveting instead of spot welded like on the Blichmann (fittings welded, handle bolted to fittings) and Polar kettles. The liquid level should never get up as high as the rivets, so leaking should not be a problem.

I got the 2-hole drilling service with mine. I used the Midwest combination valve/bulkhead. This is an assembly of individual parts and pieces (valve, washers, nut, o-rings, coupler and connector). It's OK but still leaks just a bit. A better solution is to get the one-piece Polar Ware Heavy Duty bulkhead and a valve.

Do the same with the thermometer attachment. Have Midwest drill that as a 7/8" hole too (1/2" is standard size thermometer hole) . Then use the Polar Ware HD bulkhead reversed to attach a non-weldless thermometer. This serves two purposes. It will push the face of the thermometer out away from the kettle (and burner heat) an extra inch. If you don't do this and use a propane or NG burner, you WILL need a shield to protect the thermometer from the heat. The other advantage to this is it keeps the thermometer's probe from sticking out into the pot too much where it could get damaged by the stir paddle in boil kettle usage of the pot.

Overall I am pleased with this kettle. It may not come with a valve, sight glass and thermometer, but it is much less money than going with either the Blichmann or Polar Ware options - even after adding those items. Definitely a money saver!

Amazing kettle, built to last Review by Brewer McBrewerstein

(Posted on 3/2/13)

Product Rating:

This kettle is huge. The picture doesn't quite reflect the true dimensions. Once this showed up on my door, I realized that there was no way this would work on my stove. The good news is I then had justification to invest in a burner system, and there is nothing quite like brewing beer outdoors when it's -3 outside.

This kettle in incredibly well-built, with riveted handles, a heavy-duty lid that fits well, and high-quality three-ply capsulation on the bottom, preventing scorching and facilitating better heat spreading.

This kettle is big enough to do all-grain, 10-gallon batches with full boil, so it gives a lot of flexibility to what you can brew and how.

The only real downside is that it is heavy and a little awkward for one person to lift, so installing a spigot for easy draining is probably recommended.

In all, I highly recommend this brew kettle - it will make your brew day easier.

Fat Bottom Review by Colin

(Posted on 3/20/13)

Product Rating:

This kettle is huge! I knew the dimensions ahead of time, but still underestimated how big it was. Definitely a step up from the old 5 gallon. Please note that this kettle is wider than it is tall, which can lead to a few problems. This goes without saying, but it should not be used on the stove unless you have a restaurant grade gas stove. The weight when full is hard on the stove and will take forever to boil if it even does. You will need a floor burner. Second, this kettle is not ideal for 5 gallon batches, but can still be used for them. The reason being is the large surface area creates a lot of evaporation and when you go to whirlpool at the end of the boil the trub cone will not form very nicely.

With that being said, for 10 gallon batches and a floor burner this thing is awesome, and why brew 5 gallons when you can brew 10?
