I never imagined I could be so well! and "like" maybe better than Goose Island Nut Brown. I used Safale dry yeast, a week in first fermenter, two weeks in the secondary and a week in keg for carbonation by the slow method. If you like brown ales it will not disappoint.
Now I go for Oktoberfest!

I made this kit for a squadron picnic that had four other homebrewers (including 2 all-grainers) in a little taste-off and won first place. It was such a crowd pleaser that I had to pull the picnic tap off of it so there'd be some left to judge. For the BMC crowd, this was the bomb dot com. Make kit per instructions with the addition of a whirfloc tablet and I LOVED it. A little more mellow and sweet finish than Newcastle.

Product Rating:

This beer is one of the best dark ales I've made. It is smooth and its flavors are complex and interesting. There is a hint of caramel and sweetness with very little bitterness. I definitely recommend trying this kit.

A new favorite, a real hit! Review by GK

Product Rating:

I was in Montana this past summer and one bar had an outstanding brown ale on tap called Moose Drool. The don't sell that by me, so I set out to find a similar beer. After I saw this kit, tried the Goose Island product, and was pleased by it similarities.

I brewed this to have it ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. This was a real hit! Even those who hesitate at the home brews, raved about how good this was. The instructions were easy and straight forward, just like all of the other Midwest kits. The only slight negative is the ABV was lower than I expected (3.9%), probably something I did rather than the kit. Next time, and there will definitely be a next time, I'd probably add a pound or two of DME to give it a little more umph. Enjoy

Great beer for the price, gonna tweak a bit next time Review by DB

Product Rating:

This beer turned out great for me and I made this one to the exact recipe that comes with the kit. The beer turned out great and it was enjoyed by everyone. I am going to brew this kit again but steer a bit off the recipe's path. I'm going to add some more fermentables in the form of Belgian candy sugar. I'm also leaning toward a small maltodextrin add to give the beer more body. I'm searching for a good replication of Leffe Brune and will tweak until I get there. Overall good price for the beer that will be one I order often.

Rich and full bodied brown ale. I used the Wyeast liquid yeast and bubbling stopped after 5 days. It was don'e that fast. I moved it to the secondary for another couple of weeks and kegged it. Now I'm enjoying it this cold winter.

The Beer that solidified my love of homebrew Review by Zach

Product Rating:

This was my 3rd attempt at homebrewing (w/ kits) and after a few glitches in my first round or two I really felt like I had arrived. Don't get me wrong - my first two were definitely drinkable, but there's a science AND art w/ brew and when both finally came together it's a great feeling to genuinely love the beer YOU make.

This ale isn't anything groundbreaking - but if fireworks happened every day of the year it wouldn't be amazing either. This is the brown you can't wait to get home to in the fall and put down. It's not too dark for having a few in the afternoon, it's not too light to call it a late-nighter either. You can definitely taste the nut and malt, but it's not ridiculous. Thumbs up from everyone that's had it so far - I wouldn't hesitate to give this a whirl - especially if you're new to the sport.

Its a full bodied, rich, and flavorful beer. The bitter and chocolate tones complement each other, and if you add honey it tastes even better. I've made this kit 5 times now.
