Partial Mash Kits

These recipes require that you mash 3.5 - 6 pounds of grain (it’s easier than you think!).

Equipment required: 2 stainless steel or enamel kettles. One kettle should have a capacity of at least 4 gallons and the other kettle should have a capacity of at least 2 gallons. You will also need a large mesh strainer or colander. Also, check out our 3 Gallon Partial Mash System.

Step 1. Mash the grains and water in the smaller kettle at 152 degrees for 75-90 minutes..
Step 2. Pour the grains and water through the strainer into the larger kettle.
Step 3. Heat water in the smaller kettle to 170 degrees. .
Step 4. Slowly pour the hot water over the grains through the strainer into the larger kettle..
Step 5. Start brewing beer the way you normally do. (Add malt extract and hops etc.) The mashing of the grains at 150-155 degrees requires your undivided attention. Maintaining these temperatures on gas stove burners is much easier than an electric stove. Midwest will crush the grains included with these kits prior to shipping or in store purchase, unless you tell us not to. The detailed instructions included with these kits are easy to follow. These kits are perfect for homebrewers who want to take the next step towards all grain brewing. (Note: Keep the grains in the grain bag if your strainer is not large enough to hold all of the grains.)
