Great light ale Review by Red

(Posted on 10/25/09)

Product Rating:

Just pulled the first bottles out of conditioning and put in the fridge. This is a great light bodied ale that starts with a hint of sweet honey and ends with a nice crisp hop note. This was my first batch brewed and even though my technique wasn't exactly perfect it turned out really well. used secondary fermentation and the beer cleared up very nicely, don't forget your irish moss. Highly recommended for working in the yard or just sitting on the couch and enjoying. Props to Midwest for an excellent product.

Don't Boil the Honey Review by clark

Excellent kit that gets better with age (2+ months in bottle). Great light, low hop summer beer. Would reccomend against boiling the honey. Just put it in after removing from the heat (before cooling) to sterilize the honey without creating any off-flavors.

A real crowd pleaser Review by John

I’ve made two batches already and can’t keep it in stock. Personally, I like a little more hops, but my homebrew friends like this as much as my nut brown which I can’t keep in stock either.

Amazing Review by Dave

Product Rating:

Wow, this was my first home brew and am trying it a week early and it is just amazing. I put the honey in at 30 mins and am curious to try adding it with 10 mins left in the boil. Great taste and so far its sooo good cold. I used Wyeast yeast and mine finished very high at FG 1.004 with a SG of 1.046 . Used secondary bucket for clearing with gelatin and it turned out amazingly clear I must say. Recommend for anyone that likes like ales. Enjoy!

Good light beer Review by JV

(Posted on 3/21/10)

Product Rating:

Overall this is a pretty good light beer. Was expecting/hoping for much more of a honey flavor than it actually has. I did wait until the last minute of boil before adding the honey hoping to increase the honey flavor. Talking to a friend he suggested adding the honey once transferring to the secondary fermenter or before bottling, just make sure the honey gets sterilized before adding.

Suprised me Review by Mike

Product Rating:

Wow, this one I cracked open just a little over 3 weeks since bottling and I had to have another. I added the honey the last 10 minutes of the boil. Exceptionally clear, crisp, and a definite clover aroma. This is one of those batches that will be hard to keep in stock.

Great Beer Review by Mike

Made this beer for a family reunion. It was a hit especially with those that were not normally crazy about a home brewed beer. I got a request from an aunt to make an additional batch for her and her friends.

A bit too hoppy. Review by Rich

Product Rating:

I really like hoppy beer, but I made this one for my friends that swear there isn't anything better than Coors Light. I added the honey and the 1 oz of Cascade hops at the last 2 minutes of the boil and pitched in Wyeast Activator. I transferred to secondary after a week and racked to a corny keg after another week. I ended up with 7.2%. I like it, but I think it's a bit too hoppy and too much honey flavor for what I was going for. I will buy this one again, but I'll add the honey at 10 minutes left and maybe not use any aroma hops. Alternatively, buying non-pellet hops would be beneficial. This way you could bag them, boil them for the last 2 minutes, and then remove them rather than having the pellet version dissolve and stay in the beer during the primary and secondary fermentation periods.

Very Solid Lighter Ale Review by Pezman419

(Posted on 8/19/10)

Product Rating:

I am more of a Dark Ale fan by preference. I usually brew Irish stouts and such as that. On a summer lark, I thought I would try this Honey Bee Ale. I had not had copious amounts of luck with lighter ales in the past, but I was quite pleased with this ale. It had very good flavor and was quite clear. I did add gypsum and Irish moss, which probably helped with the clarity.

Some of the comments above tend to think that this ale needs more honey flavor, or at the least adding it at the end of the brew. I added the honey half way through the brewing process, and I thought the honey flavor was still quite strong. I wouldn't add the honey personally, although I do have drier, dark ale taste preferences.

Great body and great foam in this ale as well. Excellent and refreshing when served ice cold. I would recommend it as a lighter ale.
