Fantastic Review by Chris D

Product Rating:

Just had my first pint and I'm impressed. Reminds me of the 09 Summit Oktoberfest. Mild bitterness and pleasingly, but not overly, sweet considering the monster jug of honey that comes with the kit.. The whole family sampled the honey and loved it.

My wife will normally shy away from darker beer but really enjoyed this one given it's mild balance. Nut Brown describes the appearance and Honey the flavor.

This beer is a winner and highly recommended!

Well Balanced Review by AMA

Product Rating:

This was my first kit from Midwest and it was a great result! The flavor was complex but mild and nutty with a slightly sweet aftertaste and just enough bitterness to balance it all out well. A nice aroma and low-moderate head retention.

I was very happy with my final product and even my mother (not a darker beer drinker) couldn't put down her mug.

Pretty good Review by Jeff

Product Rating:

Added the honey with 20 min. left in the boil...next time I will go 25, as this is a little sweet for my taste, as I was looking for a plain English brown....but a good beer nonetheless, and all my friends LOVE it...a tad over-priced, but not a huge deal in the grand scheme.

Sweet & Full Review by Bergie

Product Rating:

Perfect bitterness. A very good beer if you like sweets, but not the best for having a bunch. About a month before the hops taste right. I would definitely buy again.

Give it time Review by M&M

Product Rating:

I am not much of a darker beer drinker but this one I would make again. I found the longer it was bottled the better it got. I've heard that honey beers should sit longer and I tend to agree. Very good kit, but let it sit.

Great starter kit Review by mediocrefermentations

I would, without hesitation, recommend this kit to anyone interested in brewing a great beer. I started out with this as my first batch and I have brewed it for the n-th time now, and every time it delivers superb quality. I would recommend that you let it sit in the bottles for a month instead of the recommended 2 weeks, as it truly develops its flavors over time.

Greay Brown Ale Review by Bill

Product Rating:

I love this ale. At first, the flavors were a little strong. After a month in the refrigerator it was excellent. I boiled the honey for 20 minutes and I used the Wyeast Activator.

Best Kit Yet Review by Bill

Product Rating:

I love this kit! Like the other reviewers stated, "Give it time." After a month in the fridge, the flavors really came together. I used the Wyeast Activator, boiled the honey 20 minutes and primed with 1 cup DME & 1/4 cup brown sugar.

I entered this ale in a local homebrew competition and it was the Overall Winner. Needless to say, the all grain guys were a little surprised, especially when they found out that this was only my third batch and my first competition.

Editors Note: Great job Bill! Keep up the good work!

Great kit Review by kyle

Product Rating:

This was my first beer brewed and fully expected to fail. I even made a few minor mistakes throughout the process. It could not have come out any better. As the previous reviews say, let it age! Tasted one at 2 weeks in bottles and it had a medicinal flavor, let it go 2 more weeks and that went away, let it go 2 more weeks and it pours down my gullet water. A+ on this kit.

Not so Honey brown Ale Review by Rex

(Posted on 6/19/12)

Product Rating:

this turned out not as good as I expected it to be. I put the honey during the last 20 minutes of the boil. When I bottled it the aroma was great but the taste was strong and not so much honey flavor. After 2 months in the bottle it is one of the strongest beer I have brewed. The flavor is good a nice brown ale with an Alcohol finish. Disappointed in that there is no real honey flavor and I used really good local honey, I will try this kit again to see if I can get it right.
