Easy first outing...

This recipe was my first try at homebrewing and my friends & I thought it turned out pretty darn good. It's lighter bodied than I was expecting and tasted a little less hoppy. However, that might be due to operator error. The brew turn out nice and clear with a wonderful amber color. Very crisp tasting. Also, noticed a much better taste after the third week in the bottle as compared to the second week. A fun beer with a relatively high alcohol content. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in IPAs.

I think this is a really nice first brew. I figured there would not be enough hops so I ordered a few extra ounces of centennial and cascade. We increased the hops schedule a bit, dry hopped as well and then made our batch with 1/2 of a gallon less water than called for . . . I would say if I did it again I would add even more hops especially mid to end of the boil. This beer really tastes great and really matures as it ages but not as hoppy as most of your west coast IPAs. I would also say leave in the primary and secondary a bit longer than called for, especially if you get stomach problems from residual yeast. cheers jon

Bitter Goodness

A great tasting, crisp brew. This was my 5th or 6th brew and I racked it 2 times before I racked it to the keg. The result was well worth the extra time. A nice amber color and great nose. It could have used some more hops earlier in the schedule so if you prefer a really hoppy flavor I would suggest you add in at least 1 more ounce at the 45 min mark. The bitterness is definitely there though so be careful that you don't create too much acidity and ruin the beer. All in all- a great beginners IPA.

This is the 5th time brewing this recipe with White Labs yeast. Best one in my book. Great body, aroma to die for...Fantastic copper color, nice white head with great lacing, (I use 1.5 cups of light DME instead of the sugar when bottling, ..this time around I've added an extra half ounce of Yakima Magnum during the first 15 minutes of the boil, just to tinker with the recipe....1 week in the primary and 2 weeks in the secondary then 4 in the bottle. Friends love it.

The mix came with an oz of extra hops which we dry hopped at 7 days, with another 7 in the fermenter before bottling. Just cracked one open and it is smooth through and through. Great combination of bittering and flavoring hops give it about a 7% ABV. Besides a little extra particulate on my end in the bottling phase, I would rate this beer an A+. I agree with others that an extra oz or so throughout the brewing would really give it an extra kick but fantastic none the less.

I've done about 15 homebrews now from various sources. I want to build a beer sculpture at this point and do my own recipes. Even if I did, I would buy this beer again. As a matter of fact, I'm online getting ready to do it now. I love IPAs, but sometimes I think the bitterness overpowers the finish and flavor. Even out of the secondary, this beer was perfect. A couple months later its even better. There is a strong hop flavor and aroma, but instead of just bitterness, it's like I'm tasting hops. A better way of putting it, it tastes like raw hops smell. No, I haven't been in the product.....yet....It's just that good. Oh, and it's pretty to without any clarifiers.

Prior to this, I had done a batch of Ferocious IPA with outstanding results. I was hoping to maintain the same hoppiness with a little more ABV. Maybe it was operator error, but mine only came in at about 5% and hardly any carbonation. Still, it turned out as good as many mass-produced IPA's (Long Hammer, Red Hook, etc.). My Ferocious IPA batch yielded a much hoppier, full-bodied beer.

This is hands down one of the best IPAs I've ever had! My dad and I could barely stop drinking it over the holidays.
Very crisp and smooth. Wonderful hop ride with a crisp citrus-noted finish.
I can't get enough of this delicious IPA!

This beer kit is the best one I've made to date. Really a great balance of hops, however I think it could use a bit more on the aroma side, but that's just my nose. Buy it and see what you think.

This one really took off with a yeast starter. 3 weeks primary - 2 weeks second and dry hopped 10 days. Wonderful color - mouth feel and carbed in 1 week. At 4 weeks this is top of the line brew. All my bandmates enjoyed this one.
