Red ales are one of the most popular styles of beer among homebrewers, and our Irish Red Ale sings their praises. Customers love its rich, deep amber-red color (thanks to a little roasted barley) and balanced smooth taste. Originating in Ireland as the name says, this brew is malty and medium-bodied with a caramel-malty sweetness that has little to no hop aroma or flavor. This creates an Irish ale that is a smooth, easily enjoyed crowd-pleaser. You'll want to bust it out for parties and brew it over and over again!

Good Beer Review by Jefftos

(Posted on 7/15/14)

Product Rating:

So this was my first batch of brew. I was pretty nervous about this brew. I know that I made a few blunders during the process. I killed my yeast by boiling water and adding the yeast to the water just after it had boiled, so I had to re-pitch it a day later when I realized my mistake. I made a few other blunders that I wont mention here but even with those mistakes this beer is turning out good. I fermented it for 3 weeks in primary and so far it is at the 3 week mark bottle conditioning. I tried one at one and two weeks and they both just tasted like wort, partially carbed wort, but not like beer. Today I opened one and I could taste it all coming together, I was actually able to finish this one. I think I will end up letting this sit for another week or two to see if it improves more, other reviewers seem to suggest letting this one sit for a while and I think I am going to have to agree. Very good beer overall, like a Killians with less carbonation and more flavor.

I received this kit in a Groupon package. This was the first homebrew I have done and I could not be happier with it.
My second is in the bottle, Liberty Cream, the third is in the first fermentor Belgian Wheat..... and my next two kits are ordered, Flat Tire and Cologne Kolsch. ... I think I have the brewing bug!!

Almost perfect Review by Greg

Product Rating:

Tasted great, but I think it should have used amber malt extract instead of gold to accentuate the red color. I served it side by side with the liberty cream ale and you couldn't visually tell a difference.

This, as many of you, was my first kit and experience with home brewing. Like many of you I was as nervous as could be! I don't have a wort chiller so I cooled it in my tub with cold ice water. I left it in single stage fermenter for 3 weeks. When I checked there was still some stuff floating so will recommended I stir it up and give it another week. That made a huge difference! I bottled about 2 weeks ago. My wife and I tried a 12oz one the other day and it was great! She said she even liked it more than Boulevard Wheat! Now I just have to wait patiently for my bigger bottles. Great brew!

Great kit to start on Review by Joe

Product Rating:

Good kit with quality ingredients. This was my first homebrew kit, and I bought some extra hops to put in it as well. I received mine with muntons yeast and it worked very quickly. Only spent about a week and a half in the fermentor. I don't have a secondary so i probably bottled it way too soon but I had no change in my gravity reading in 4 days, so I went ahead and bottled it. It also carbonated pretty quickly and it currently sitting in my fridge aging. I'm hoping it gets a little better with time. Definitely drinkable and tasty and smells really good, but tastes a little green. Definitely a learning experience!

Like many others, this was my first kit and I was quite nervous that it wouldn't turn out during the entire process. I figured I'd screw something up from the get go. I didn't. It looks and tastes fantastic. Had a friend over last night and watched his eyes light up as he took his first drink and he said, "You really made this?!?!"

Just follow the instructions, don't be as nervous as I was and this Irish Red Ale will turn out excellently!

I'm going to try another kit and use the liquid yeast this time and see if it turns out even better!
