I brewed this beer in 2009 and 2010 and it won blue ribbons both years in BJCP category 16C at the Arkansas State Fair. The 2010 entry also placed second in Best if Show.
Everybody asks me when I'll have another batch of the Saison.

This was my first all grain batch and the beer turned out amazing. Great color, aroma, flavor, pretty much everything turned out better than I could have imagined. The beer finishes really nice and dry I made a starter of the Wyeast Belgian Saison 3724 and then just pitched the dry yeast that came with the kit directly into the primary. with good fermentation control I took it from 1.059 to 1.005 in one week. Bottled after nine days and at four weeks after brewing I have already drank every last bit of it. I definitely recommend trying this kit out, I know I will again.

I don't know Saisons, but I know that this is one of my favorite beers. Like most beers, improves with a little aging. Give the flavors a chance to meld. I kegged mine and let it sit at 38*F for 1mo. before tapping (patience-brew enough so you have something else to drink). I used Wyeast Belgian Wheat at about 67-68*F and finished at 1.008. ABV-6%. I really like this yeast, It works great for this lightly spiced Belgian. Dry enough to be refreshing and enhances the spices without being overly estery.

This was my first all grain beer that my Dad and I ever made. I came in with low expectations as I wanted to start with something lite and easy to drink in the summer. Absolutely exceeded my expectations. Fantastic and refreshing beer. I plan on brewing this again in the spring so I have it ready for the start of summer

I like to brew this for the summer.
I used the White Labs Belgian Wit Ale #400 liquid yeast.
Slight spicey taste from the yeast.

A Great Beer

This was my 5th and best all grain, after 20 so extract and partial mash brews. When I first opened the kit I was disappointed to see that the liquid yeast included was White Labs WLP 400, a Belgian Wit yeast. I expected to receive a Saison yeast, not a Wit. I also already had plenty of WLP 400 on hand from previous batches. I love the yeast, just didn't think it was appropriate for a Saison and was expecting to be able to add a Saison strain to my inventory of yeasts. When you order online I wasn't able to see the specific yeast that would be sent with the kit or I would have replaced it.
I brewed the kit following the directions, hit my mash temperatures but mashed for 90 minutes. I use the BIAB method and wanted to mash a bit longer. I overshot my water by about 1/2 gallon so I came in just under the recipe O.G. of 1.055-1.058 at 1.054. I fermented around 66-68 degrees for 3 weeks and was very surprised to see a F.G. of 1.004 on this beer, well below the 1.010-1.012 estimated in the instructions. I bottled and after 3 weeks split a bottle for tasting with SWMBO. She loved it, although she metioned a funky smell, I said that's a Belgian beer smell! I was a bit put off initially by a bitter finish. I could tasted the bitter orange peel strongly in the finish, SWMBO didn't notice it, and now two weeks later I still tasted it but it's mellowed a great deal. The beer is a couldy yellow-gold with some hop and bitter orange peel in the finish, very crisp and dry as well . I carbonated to Saison guidelines and it pours with a thick white head with good lacing. The best beer I've made to date. I will order this kit again.

It really is a Saison, it's not a weak beer at all. I used the Wyeast smack pack, and it took off and made a great beer. I gave it a month to condition after kegging, and am happy with it.
