Monster Mill MM3 3-Roller Mill Review by Jase

Product Rating:

Have used this for 3 batches already, love this mill, if you are brewing 10+ gallon batches, this is the mill for you, a much better controlled crush at a quick speed, doesn't clog up like the MM2. The gap is easy to adjust and once dialed in, it stays there unlike other grain mills.

Spending a little bit more for this is well worth it in the long run.

Do`nt crack corn Review by frozinpoka

Product Rating:

2nd wheel needs to adjust to crack corn. The wheel that needs to be adjustable is next to the top wheel next to the crank so that it can feed the corn into the mill.

Beefy Rollers, Fast Crushing, Sturdy Design Review by Arctic Bear

When you add up the cost of buying a hopper and the baseplate this product becomes considerably more expensive.

I just dialed in my Mill. It said it was set from the factory but the set screws were loose when I took it out of the box. Also, to install the hopper you need to remove the set screw which allows the adjustment roller to freespin and lose its gap setting (unless you mark it with a sharpie)

Used a feeler gauge from autozone ($6) and a friends two roller mill to figure out a good gap setting. Adjusting the gap took a matter of minutes. Make sure to adjust both sides of the bottom roller to ensure an even crush and no stuck rollers. After adjusting the gap properly and reinstalling the hopper, I tested with a pound of grain and was amazed by the results.

I plan on brewing with it this week but I am looking forward to seeing my new efficiency.

My only gripe with the designs is the lack of included sides (making purchasing the MM hopper or customer making a more intricate hopper critical) and that if the mill isnt attached to a baseplate then the rollers and sides will all just fall apart.

Also, having to remove the gap set screws to install/remove the hopper to adjust the gap makes the setting of this mill a little bit of a pain, but once it is set, assembled and locked in, there should be no need to adjust it.

At the end of the day, once it is assembled and the gap is set properly you are left with a super beefy mill that crushes grain beautifully leaving a lot of cracked husks without turning everything into powder.

great mil Review by cam

Product Rating:

Pricey purchase especially when adding on the hopper and a base for this mill but it seems pretty well built and should last you a long time. Factor in the decrease in price of grain if you start buying in bulk and crushing at home and you'll feel better about it.
As for the product itself it is sturdy, well made, easy to install and adjust. I noticed a 5-10% bump in efficiency when using this compared to the store mill so that was nice too.

No Instructions Review by Loren

Product Rating:

I have not used the mill yet, but some instructions would be nice. Went to Monster Mill web site to get the information, only to find them lacking. Instruction sheet is confusing and list the initial setting in three places and show three different settings. Please add some diagrams or pictures that show the nomenclature.

The mill seems to be a quality product, but it will take some time to set up and use properly.

Solid design Review by Jude

This will crush anything smaller than corn. For that you can use a cheapo corn mill. The rollers are 1.5" thick and crush rather than tear, helping your sparging.

The Godzilla of grain mills Review by Ed

Product Rating:

This thing can handle 25 pounds of grain like nothing. It's very solidly built. The crush is smooth and even, this is way better than the corn mills like the Corona (unless you want flour and a stuck sparge). Just be aware you also have to buy or make a base and hopper.
I advise against the hand crank, a waste of money.

Industrial strength Review by Alan

Product Rating:

This unit is a bit pricey with the hopper and base as noted above, but I was amazed at the weight and quality of it. The through put is phenomenal while giving a good crush. My efficiency is consistently between 80 and 85%

Improved my Efficiency Review by Rich S

Product Rating:

Though I've used this product just once, I'm really happy with the results. I was able to increase my efficiency by 5% based on my historical averages and what I was getting from grains crushed by my LHBS. After a few batches I plan to adjust the gap to see if I can continue to improve.

The product is sturdy and well made. I felt that adjusting the gap was pretty easy. Make sure you read the directions that come with it so you know which way you need to turn the knobs for the best gap position with the 3 rollers.

Don't be surprised if your mill get jammed initially if you have grains on the rollers before running a motor/drill. Just turn the speed up for a moment, get those first grains cracked and it runs fine. I found it worked best if you got the rollers moving and then started to pour in grains. No issues then. It was just at first I dumped a pound of grain in to test and it took a moment to get started with a few grains wedged between the rollers.

I gave this product a lower rating for price because as others have said, you need stuff like a hopper and a base to really use it. So it can become rather costly.

But cost aside, if the mill continues to work the way it did after just 1 once than I will be very happy.

The best mill money can buy Review by Jude

I always get at least 80% efficiency with this mill. It crushes rather than tears the grain, resulting is less flour/powder, and it doesn't tear the husk. This gives me high efficiency and fewer stuck sparges. I attached a low speed drill to run it, and it devours large quantities of grain. I can grind 25 pounds of grain in minutes. Here's a tip to avoid jamming - for large quantities of grain start the mill first, then pour in the grain into the hopper.
