Oatmeal Stout Beer Recipe Kit

This Stout has more body than our Irish Stout with a smoother, slightly sweeter flavor that’s slick in the mouth. A hint of chocolate and oat texture makes this a favorite. This classic stout flavor leaves you wanting more.

  • Full bodied yet smooth and slightly sweet
  • Hints of chocolate and figs, with nutty, grainy flavor from oats
  • Clean, roasted malty flavor and chewy texture
  • Ingredients include: 6 lbs. Dark liquid malt extract, 8 oz. Rolled Oats, 4 oz. Chocolate Malt, 4 oz. Roasted Barley specialty grains, 1 oz. Fuggle pellet hops, yeast, priming sugar and a grain bag

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts, but it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Not really a "Stout" Review by lordotheporto

(Posted on 3/22/15)

Product Rating:

While reasonably priced, this recipe is lacking something. It is not black and thick in appearance as pictured. The same applies to the body and mouth-feel. This is really a dark brown ale--maaaybe a Porter. The oats give it a smoothness, but not too much. It lacks the dark, richness of a stout. If i were to make again I would add more of everything. More oats, more dark roasted malts, maybe some more caramel and some additional DME. Then again, maybe this is as bold as it gets for the price? A good beer, but nothing to write home about.

Great brew! Review by brewerJim

Brewed this a while back and am now just getting around to review it. 3wks in primary 4wks in secondary 2wks in bottle ok brew. After 4wks in bottle fantastic! Found a 6pk had cellared for 2years and had forgotten about. What a smooth and chewy brew. If you can wait 6 months or more it is well worth the wait.

Not bad Review by Mikey

Product Rating:

I brewed this exactly as the recipe stated. It was good, no bad aftertaste and the alcohol content was right up there. But there is something missing taste wise. Kind of bland. Don't get me wrong, the beer was really good. But if I do this one again, I'm going to add some extra ingredients to give it a litle extra flavor.

Awesome Stout Review by Mudbugger

Product Rating:

Started this in February 2014 and floated the keg in May 2014. Initial SG 1.042, final 1.005. Had a full, robust flavor, beautiful head, and just the right alcohol content. My friends that were usually drinking light beers enjoyed the heck out of this beer and have sworn allegiance to heavier beers now. This has also convinced me to always keep one of my kegs loaded with an oatmeal stout!

Can't go wrong! Review by Aldany

(Posted on 4/13/14)

Product Rating:

For the simplicity of brewing it, low price and final product. This kit's cost/benefit is a non brainier. The drinkability is superb and it pairs well with almost every dish. Definitely a brew it again kit, just wished it had a bit more roasted flavor. Will consider adding a few ounces of chocolate or roasted barley next time. Also like the suggestion in one of the reviews to roast the oat flakes. But is just right the way it is and pleasing even to people who never had a stout before. As the title of the review says you can't go wrong with this one. Cheers!!

Great Review by Bolars

I followed the instructions for the boil exactly on this one. Two weeks in the primary, 2 weeks in the secondary, then carbed for two weeks. Great flavor and body. It's one of the least expensive extract kits at Midwest, and is a great value for your money.

I brewed this stout and added some cherries to the mix. It ended up being a great combination of awesomeness. Can't wait to let me friends try this.

Gone too soon Review by OHara

Very easy to make kit and the taste is great. I made this with the white labs vial that was started in a 2 liter starter. That really give it a nice clean finish.

Subtle...but good! Review by Ken

(Posted on 2/18/14)

Product Rating:

This turned out to be a smooth, subtle stout, but I may try toasted or additional oats a second time around to emphasize its identity. Rather than bottling after adding sugar, I'd love to try kegging on nitrogen.
