Killer First Brew Review by Batastrophe

(Posted on 10/11/14)

Product Rating:

This was my first brew and since I enjoy pumpkin ales, I figured I'd give it a try. Read all the reviews here and ended up using 60oz of Libby pumpkin and baked it until it caramelized then added into primary with the wort. I also tripled the spices. Put in primary for 10 days and secondary for 14 then bottled. Like other reviewers have pointed out, bottle conditioning is key with this one. Tasted horrible a 2 weeks, better at 3, finally came together a 4 and really popped at 6 weeks. Great color, good head, nice pumpkin aroma and taste and the spices really bring this together. I've spent years sampling all manner of pumpkin ales and this is definitely up there. Will definitely brew again and add some vanilla and cinnamon sticks in secondary like some others here have done to really put this up there. Lastly, heed the reviews on the excessive sludge you get with the pumpkin and adjust wort/water volume accordingly to get the full 5 gallons.

Great tasting beer! Review by Tyler

I added two cans of Pie Filling (30oz each) into the Primary fermentation, after the beer matured it really had a great smell and a light pumpkin taste. Highly recommend it for the holiday's, this brew really changed my mind about spicy / holiday beers.

Great Buy Review by MmmmBEER

(Posted on 9/1/14)

Product Rating:

I am about to bottle this beer soon and I am excited to try it when its finished. I used 45oz of canned pumpkin and the amount of spices that came with the kit. I think I am going to add 30 more ounces of pumpkin and double the spices next time. I will definitely buy this product again because I just purchased another kit.

Excellent Start to Great Pumpkin Brew Review by stvnscott

(Posted on 7/27/14)

Product Rating:

This kit gave me an excellent start to a great brew for fall. I used the dry yeast. Cinnamon and Nutmeg were doubled to 1tsp each. One quarter teaspoon each of ginger and cloves were also added. I used all 16oz of brown sugar instead of 8oz as written in the recipe. Two 29oz cans of Libby's pure pumpkin were spread on a cookie sheet and carmelized in the oven. I preheated the oven to 425, placed the pumpkin on the middle rack, reduced the temperature to 350 and baked for 30 minutes while the wort chilled. The carmelized and sanitized pumpkin was pushed through a funnel into my 6 gallon carboy, and the wort was poured on top, along with enough water to fill it to 5.75 gallons. After 2 weeks of primary fermentation, the beer was siphoned off to my 5 gallon carboy for secondary fermentation of another 2 weeks. Then, it was bottled and allowed to age for 4 weeks. It turned out absolutely great--like pumpkin pie beer. My family and friends love it. It will be a staple this fall for sure!

This is my 2nd batch and it turned out great. Doubled the suggested pumpkin and added a bit more spices and brown sugar. Definitely a crowd pleaser.

Friend and Family Favorite Review by Stu

Product Rating:

This beer was delicious and powerful! I added a full bottle of vanilla vodka to the mix during bottling. Added a great flavor to the pumpkin and spice flavors. I used 45 oz of canned pumpkin, next time I'll double that amount to 90 oz.

10 days primary, 10 days secondary, 4 weeks bottle.
I plan on getting this in the bucket around May to have it ready and aged for October.

Good but mild Review by Sample

(Posted on 2/3/14)

Product Rating:

I used 2 pumpkins and even then it was mild. I added a little more spice and half a pound of brown sugar. I sampled it before racking from the primary and it tasted like pumpkin pie. It sat in primary for 2 weeks, then in the secondary for 2 more, before it was kegged. Good beer but still not a strong pumpkin flavor.

Good to the last drop Review by METAIRIEBREWER

(Posted on 1/6/14)

Product Rating:

I brewed this kit a couple months ago for the first time and was pleased with the results. The pumpkin aroma from the poured beer is most pronounced. If the desired outcome is a stronger spice presence then increasing the spices over the amount provided in the kit would be suggested, but this kit as is produces a really good beer without being overpowering.

From Halloween through the Christmas holidays this is a flavorful beer to have on tap for your guests. The hint of pumpkin was just enough to enjoy with ease.

Great Fall Beer Review by Graham

(Posted on 12/25/13)

Product Rating:

I brewed this kit with an addition of some all spice and cloves in a muslin bag for the final 10 minutes of the boil. I also added 1kg of honey to add some extra sweetness and ABV. It tastes great! The spices needed to clam and develop, but once they matured, the flavor of this beer is outstanding. My friends and family are raving about it, and are highly encouraging me to brew this again before spring. I might have to take them up on the offer.
