First of all, if you've never made homemade soda, its easy. Warm water, sugar, yeast (if naturally carbonating), flavoring, and bottles. Give it a try.
I'd read other reviews of this flavor and they were all less than flattering. One equated it to tasting like cough syrup. Yes, if you taste it straight out of the bottle it will taste like cough syrup. However, my son wanted to try this so we bought some and put up 4L of soda. A little over 48 hours later the bottles were ready and we were eager to try it. The short answer is don't expect "fresh raspberry" flavor. I'd equate it to a cross between cream soda and Pixie sticks or raspberry flavored Sweet Tarts. It isn't bad, not great mind you, but not so bad we won't drink it. I doubt it will be very high on my list to try again. In the end, without prompting and having not read any reviews of his own, my 9 year old son said "Dad, it tastes like that flavored medicine 'I like.'" I'm not sure which medicine he is referring to but that's what comes to his mind when he drinks the raspberry flavored soda.

I made this with my cousins 11 year old son. Because Raspberry extract can taste artificial I added some Trader Joes Black Raspberry Juice. It gave the soda a much more natural taste and no one thought it tasted like medicine. It was pretty good, maybe a little sweet. I cut back a little on the sugar to compensate for the extra sugar in the juice.

I made soda that tasted like medicine too, I thought I was doing something wrong til I read other reviews. I cut back on the sugar and the amount of extract I used...it helped, a little.

NOT what I was hoping for! I did not expect much, something like store bought raspberry soda, but this was worse. I even brought the amounts of syrup down due to experience...but still not good. I will look for raspberry somewhere else.

I gave this to my sister as a gift along with the soda making kits. We made a raspberry soda that was pretty good, though a bit sweet. I suggest using less sugar. Its an easy kit to make, and doesn't take nearly as long as beer. I plan on making the Sasaparilla next time.

I liked the root beer and one of the kids wanted to try the raspberry soda, so I got some. Followed the directions for the first batch (1 gallon). I was expecting a fake raspberry extracty (sic) taste, but I can barely taste any raspberry at all. And there was the medicine aftertaste. Me and the kids all mentioned the medicine aftertaste before I read any reviews. I'll try changing the recipe up a bit for next batch, but my expectations are low. The ginger ale is next, hopefully that's better.
