Great All Around Review by sanka

(Posted on 2/1/10)

Product Rating:

I was looking for a decent all-around regular every day drinking beer. My wife was looking for a break from the IPA after IPA I generally like. We found a great compromise in this brew.

It's nothing outstanding in any way, just great all around. Great malt flavor. A little hops I notice, but not too much it eeks out the wife. Clear copper color, and clean finish. It's just good beer, something you can drink every day and love.

I would love to say it gets better with age, but it never lasts that long.

Red Hood ESB less hoppy than Red Hook ESB Review by Dave

(Posted on 2/28/10)

Product Rating:

This was my first kit. The hop aroma in the homebrew is not as pronounced as the current Red Hook. (I don't think the Red Hook has been as good the last few months.) I need to do another side by side tasting myself. I like it just fine as a session beer and wouldn't mind always having it on hand. Took a pint to the local beer store (they also sell homebrewing supplies). They liked the homebrew more than Red Hook. I know them well enough to know they weren't simply patronizing me. Had a friend over and he also like the homebrew version more than the Red Hook.

From looking at other reviews, I think you may as well change your star ratings. The consensus is that customers are very satisfied with the pricing and quality (freshness, consistency, accuracy, packaging) of your products.

How about some sort of a version that has the customer compare her/his results to the long description for the recipe? One rating should also be, "to what extent I followed the recipe"!.

Better than I expected Review by MaineMike

Product Rating:

I was not expecting too much from this as I like Red Hook ESB, but it's far from my favorite. I was very pleasantly surprised! This beer is fantastic. I carbed it with Munton's Kreamy X and will probably never carb with anything else again. Leaves a light creamy lacing all the way down. The beer is not overhoppy and has a great taste and even better aftertaste. Could possibly be my new favorite. If you are on the fence about ordering this kit - DO IT. I left it in secondary for about a month and warm (Room Temp) conditioned it for 2 weeks and after one more week in the fridge this beer is hard to beat.

A truely good brew Review by Hoppyscot

Product Rating:

Excellent results with this kit. Flavor improves if kept more then 6 weeks after bottling - not to say it's not really fine prior to that. I tried this, as did my son, in a head to head with Red Hook - very impressed with the result. As some reviewers have also stated it's better than Red Hook on more than a few occasions.

Enjoy!

The ultimate judgment of a good beer is when your friends request a bottle or two for home.

This turned out to be a fantastic beer. I forgot to add the malt until late in the boil, however, this turned out to have great flavor. 1 week in the primary and 2 1/2 weeks in the secondary. Finished in bottles 2 weeks at room temp. I will brew this one again.

Not Red Hook... But better! Review by John

Product Rating:

Turned out nothing like the Red Hook I get in bottles here... tasted way better! I just finished off some bottles that have sat for 3 months and it is amazing. I'm brewing more this weekend to enjoy over Thanksgiving with my brothers.

Never forget your first! Review by wgonfan

This was my first HomeBrew & it turned out great! Followed directions to a T & used the wyeast 1056. 1 week in primary (fermented a little high @ 75degrees for 24 hrs, then lowered temp to 65. reached Fg of 1.014 in 4days), 1 in the secondary & 3 weeks in the bottles. Came out clearer than expected. It came out great! My discerning dad has already asked me to brew this one again.

Best So Far Review by TinyMango

Product Rating:

I'm new to homebrew and have had good results so far, but this was the best of 5! It has a great balance of malty rich flavor with a bit of hoppy bite. It's just a nice, drinkable beer. Will order again soon!
