Great beer with good complexity and hopiness Review by skiatd1

(Posted on 4/9/14)

Product Rating:

I really liked this brew. I brewed with Wyeast american ale hops. Complexity and hopiness with a nice but not too strong bite. Good underlying flavor as well. Doesn't fill you up like a brown but has great body. Will brew again next year as I like to follow the seasons, maybe in the fall.

Product Rating:

It's close enough to Red Hook's ESB that you will like it. Lots of flavor for a medium gravity beer without being overpowering.
It's a solid amber ale and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This was my second beer I brewed and my first successful one. Turned out great! I have had a keg of Red Hook ESB for a party and this is easily as good. Great for for everyone isn't too much of anything. So the masses can enjoy without complaining about hops or color or whatever else beer wimps complain about.

I couldn't believe my first mug of this beer. Having spent time on the west coast Red Hook Beer was one of my favorites. This beer reminds me of that great beer. Wonderful flavor and drinkability.

Not as ESB Review by Tim

Apparently I was sent the wrong grain bag. This came out with a dark color of medium body. Nothing remarkable at all. Nevertheless, we drank it all.

This is actually not bitter at all. In fact, I found it rather smooth. The hops balance nicely with the malts which provides for a enjoyable drink. I will buy this again.

Love this beer!! Review by Nicholas

Did I mention I love this beer?! I'm a big fan of Red Hook and live close to there Portsmouth NH location, I'm always hitting their pub when I'm in the area. When I saw this beer kit I knew I hard to try it and I'm glad I did. I brewed this beer and put it through primary and secondary, then kegged it (it was the first brew I ever kegged). Once the carbonation was perfect, this beer went quick to say the least. It's definitely a great amber ale and spot on with Red Hook's ESB. Love the beer and will be brewing again soon. If you love Red Hook's beer then give this a go, you once be disappointed, A++.

Getting another batch Review by M Anderson

Product Rating:

Back into home brewing after many years hiatus and this was my first kit. I'm a big fan of the cloned beer and MidWest's Red Hood far exceeded what I was expecting. Followed the provided directions, no deviations, no additions. 3 weeks in the bottle at room temp, PERFECT. The longer the beer sat in the bottle at room temp the more bitter it became (all in personal preference). I would recommend refrigerating around 3-4 weeks.
