Schell's London Stout

$41.99

Product Number: 815x

Availability: In stock

Schell’s is Minnesota’s oldest brewery. We toured their brewery in New Ulm and came back with this recipe. This roasty London-style sweet stout has warmed many a Minnesota belly while ice fishing or playing broom ball on a cold winter day. Originally one of Schell's Snow Storm beers, a rotating winter seasonal, it was so highly requested, they brought it back as a year-round product. It was a delight to work with the brewery on this kit, and Midwest is proud to offer this exclusive clone!

Chocolate and espresso/coffee describe this beer perfectly, contributed by a healthy dose of chocolate malt and roasted barley. Dark, medium-bodied, with some a caramel and malty sweetness makes this bear a rich, warming elixir.

Smooth and Tasty Review by Samuel

Product Rating:

I saw this clone and tried it, having enjoyed Schell's Stout in a bottle, which is hard to come by where I live. As with all my stouts I followed my standard practice, 2 weeks primary, 4 weeks secondary, and 1-2 weeks of cold conditioning before force carbing and kegging. I like cold conditioning to help clear the beer and drop any unwanted yeast that is hanging around. I ended up with an OG of 1.050 (not sure why) and FG 1.012 for a ABV of 4.9%. Very tasty, I put the full 1 oz Palisade in because I like a little more hop in my stouts. I would consider it again but would prefer a lower price. I would say it is an accurate clone.

Brewed this in warm weather but it still came out perfect- great flavor and body. I went ahead and used all the hops sent with it as well, and it wasn't too hoppy at all.
