The Schmidling Permanent Roller Maltmill is a high quality mill with a preset .045 inch gap between rollers, which gives a good crush without grinding your grist into flour. When cranked by hand, you can mill a pound of grain in about 15 seconds. The hopper has a 3 pound capacity. The Mill comes mounted on a wooden base that will rest atop your bucket, kettle or cooler. You can also bolt the mill to a table or countertop.

Its very durable, mine is 7 years old, the one at the club is 3 years old. They see a lot of use and hold up well. The rollers and bearings are good quality. The base could be better.

The build quality of this mill is fantastic. Everything feels rock solid, and I expect it to last many, many years. Since the rollers are fixed, you obviously cannot adjust your grind. I would classify the grind as moderate to fine; husks are mostly intact, but you do get some flour. As a basis of comparison, it is definitely finer than the grind Midwest uses in their kits. I get a little better than 70% efficiency on an average beer as a batch sparger, so it's definitely not so fine as to be a problem.
