Good malt taste, great hoppiness. If you like dark beers, you will love this recipe. Will definitely brew this one again.

Its a fairly easy brew to make, and is very dark. At one point I thought it was actually absorbing light it was so dark. Lots of flavor, make no mistake this brew isn't for your cupcake domestic drinking friends. Real beer drinkers only....

Yields a wonderfully dark and complex brew. Moderate dark coffee malt flavor with a subtle hint of fruity phenols balanced with a delicate yet flavorful hop bitterness. Pours a nearly impenetrable brown-red color with a two finger tan head. Could almost be considered love in a bottle. Be sure you buy the Wyeast Activator, it makes the beer worth the effort. I will definitely brew this regularly, and I'm not even a big dark beer guy.

This a serious brew for serious beer drinkers. Extremely rich and complex flavor for a dark beer. Not for light beer drinkers!

I am on my 6th kit so far and thought I would try to make a kit that included more ingredients and higher alcohol content. Honestly thought it was awesome and feel guilty for every beer I drink cause that's one less to enjoy later.

I brew a range of beers and probably brew at least two if not more batches a month. This beer is very malty and good. I added an extra lb of sugar and it turned out very nice. Some of my friends say it's the best one I've made. It's a toss up between This Strong Ale and Midwest's Power Pack Porter. Not for the lite beer drinker. I will need to keep this one going..

I love this brew and will try to keep a keg on draft at all times. Nice clean flavor - very drinkable. My wife loves this and she doesn't drink IPAs or Stouts. If you like even middle of the road production beers (Killian's or Amber Bock) this is just a bit stronger.

This is a fantastic beer. Smells like English toffee, and has a nice roast coffee finish. Big, malty, yet perfectly balanced. I will be brewing this several times a year.

Wonderful beer. I was surprised how good it was. I ordered it just before I decided I was moving toward more APA's and IPA's. This beer made me change my mind (again). Malty with good hop balance. I'm very glad I have this on hand for these winter months. A favorite of my relatives (not sure if that's good or bad).

This was my first ever foray into brewing, and while I think I may have gone a little overboard in the amount of care I took brewing this kit, it came out reasonably perfectly. I even took it easy on myself and went with the dry yeast. I was only able to age it for a month, because I wanted to roll it out over Christmas. Despite the reportedly inferior yeast and the youth of the beer, though, it was a big hit and it came out delicious. The flavor is perfectly balanced and the alcohol content is huge. The only criticism I have is that using exactly the amount of priming sugar they suggested makes it a little bit too peppy. My readings on this subject suggest that for a beer this heavy, you only need to use about half the sugar this kit recommends. I can't wait to see what the leftovers taste like in another month.
