I love this stopper. It works great for long term storage. I have used it for a double bock and a mead both over 9 months in the secondary. They turned out great.

Got the item... should have known better that it was a size #7 stopper and will not fit a better bottle even though no size is listed in description. it fits my 3 gallon glass carboy i use for my real small batch stuff so not a complete waste. Just disappointing. it seems to be of decent construction. the top part that seals the stopper slides up and down within the item which is not shown and is somewhat tight in doing so... constant use might prove this to fail in time. so you might want to be gentle on pulling it down to close the seal when you use it.

Caveat emptor: This is my first review. Everything I have purchased from Midwest Supplies has met or exceeded my expectations. I am posting this only because I do not know if this is operator ignorance or if there is a problem with this particular product.
Maybe I am missing something - seeing these good reviews, I figured I would include this with other items using my rewards points. This does not seem well made nor does it seem like it would be suitable as a "solid" stopper or even as an airlock. I am afraid to use it. It does not seem too complicated so I don't think I am missing something - am I...?
Every product I have purchased from Midwest has been excellent as has the service. Somebody please tell me I am an idiot and I am missing something here...

Manual Actuation

This was not quite what I expected. Basically this is a solid silicone stopper with five holes in it. Four holes are spread radially around the center, and the fifth goes through the center. On top there is a silicone cap, with a silicone "stick" that you see in the picture.
To seal you have to pull on the stick to make the cap be flush with the top of the stopper. The first time I did this it took a little work to get the sliding action, I am not sure how much pressure would have to build up to create this. It might also be possible to reseal by pushing down on the cap, but I have not tried this yet. For the time being it seems you might have to remove the stopper in order to reseal it.
Overall I will still be using this, but like another reviewer it will more or less be restricted to use on my 3 gallon glass. Glad I tried it, but for the price I would just get a bunch of solid stopper next time.

For long term storage

This one stopper serves the purpose of 2 stoppers, one solid, one drilled. This is useful for Lambics, lagers, and Imperial Stouts, all of which are fermented and then aged for a long time.
In my opinion you would be better off using the 2 stoppers than this. They are each better suited for their task than this is for both.
