Mid-level Review by Koosman

(Posted on 2/6/14)

Product Rating:

After reading about the beer I always wanted to try it but always had other things to brew. I finally made it, and am drinking it. I'd rate it in the middle. I'll drink it but it's not that spectacular that I'd rush to brew it again, there are so many other kits here I'd rather make first.

The president's beer Review by Redmond

Product Rating:

Too bad we don't have a historical record of the beers the presidents made or had made for them in the 1700's and early 1800's. This is a middle of the pack beer. It's ok but needs more honey to be called a honey ale. Either that or add some more honey malt.

Satisfactory Review by Sanjay

Product Rating:

The kit makes a pretty good beer, just not excellent in my opinion. It's got a mild honey taste, a big creamy head, and is a little stronger than what you might expect.

Okay, I voted for him, so I thought I would try his chefs beer. Meh....I hoped for better. I think the folks at Midwest design better beer kits...without raising your taxes.

I like the flavor of the beer. The honey gives it slightly more ABv and I like the taste too. The price is a little high though.

White House Ale Review by Snowgoon

Product Rating:

As usual the kit and instructions were easy to follow. Not a lot of surprises in the outcome of the beer. Almost overlooked the honey presence in the final product. Overall a good beer but not one of our favorites.

A little above average Review by Dunn

Product Rating:

I finally got a chance to try out the presidents beer. It was above average, though not my favorite. It has good ingredients which is why it costs what it does. I used liquid yeast with a starter. I gave it 2 weeks to ferment, 3 to clear, and 3 to bottle condition. If I were to change the recipe I'd add 4 ounces of honey malt. Plus some more honey.

Good kit. Somewhat amber in color with a hint of honey flavor. Not my favorite, but I am glad I tried it.

Brewed this for the 4th. Review by Ryan

(Posted on 7/3/13)

Product Rating:

I bought this kit to brew as a special beer for the 4th of July. I began brewing this kit in mid May, and fermented it in the Better Bottle. I made no adjustments to the recipe, and used the Munton's dry yeast that came with the kit.

I left this beer in the fermenter for 4 weeks and then bottled it. I sampled the first one at 5 weeks, after 1 week in the fridge. It tasted good, but not ready. Then next one I tasted at 5 1/2 weeks and it was better. So the 4th will be 6 weeks after I started this brew, and I have no doubt that it will impress. I think it will be even better at 8 weeks if there is any left.

That being said this isn't a recipe that I will be brewing again soon. While the ABV is high, this one will get you lit up. It's lacking in overall flavor. Some extra honey may add to that, and increase the ABV even more. I'll be sticking to the cheaper, or more hoppy brews in the near future.

Thought I give this brew a try after reading the history behind it and was happy I did.
