over 2 years agoFilter ScreenSimple. Easy to use. Works. No stems and seeds you don't need get through this. I have used it in a pinch to replace the false bottom of my lauter tun . No problems. Recommend applying a light coat of silicone (not petroleum) lube on the outer surface of the filter insert, and inner surface of the 2 O-rings in the kettle ball-valve. Easily done with a Q-tip. Prevents steel from nicking the rubber + extends O-ring life. docfrohMay 6, 2017Purchased
over 2 years agoWorks great!I have an 8 gal. Megapot, and instead of the expensive FB I decided on this boil screen. I used it once thus far, but it worked very well, and after running off a gallon or so of the wort I was able to filter out most of the grains. After the boil/cooling, I ran the cooled wort into the fermenter (via the spigot) and most, if not all of, the hops were "filtered" out. I did not have an issue with a stuck sparge, but I suppose it could happen if you drain the wort too quickly.February 2, 2017Purchased
over 2 years agoQuality kettle screenPerfect size for a 5 gal converted cooler mash tun.December 28, 2015AmazingSo I purchased this item awhile back to put me into free shipping territory. Just used it today for the first time, and I'm amazed. I equipped it in one of the standard 15 gallon brew pots, and had a total of 5 lbs crushed grain, and another 5 lbs of pumpkin meat, not from a can, but cooked and hand mashed. Everything filtered perfectly, even with the screen being completely covered by the grain/pumpkin mixture. Totally worth it's price, even if it never worked again.November 1, 2014Stuck sparges are not funI've used this for two all grain batches and I am giving it away to an extract brewer because it gets clogged every five mins. and completely screw up my brew schedule plus the temp loss. I am going back to the home-made false bottom I used before, never had a stuck sparge with it.July 9, 2013Nice ScreenThis is a good part. Very sturdy, easy to install, does the job well. Has trouble with pelleted hops.July 3, 2013Not good for boil screenI used this in a polar-ware 10 gallon pot as a hop filter. Did not go long w/o clogging. I did whirlpool the wort but it still clogged up. Construction seemed good but not useful for my purposesApril 26, 2013
