American Hero Imperial Stout…genuine, handcrafted beer inspired by genuine American heroes.

In the real world, heroes wear combat boots, not capes. But just like fictional superheroes, the real life superheroes are everywhere…from the front lines, to our home towns. Always there. Always vigilant.

At Midwest Supplies, we believe America’s heroes deserve beer that’s as authentic, stout-hearted and all-around awesome as they are. That’s why we teamed up with a few good brewers to create the first-ever American Hero Imperial Stout recipe kit, honoring all of America’s proud soldiers and veterans.

Just like our armed forces, this kit goes above and beyond the call of duty. Gear up for big, bold malt flavor, Humvee-sized hop additions and enough roasted barley to make you sit up and say, “HOO-AH!”

And, of course, this limited-edition recipe kit includes only U.S.-grown ingredients, to celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave in every single sip.

Whether you’re brewing for top brass, to provide a little Rest & Rehydration for a hometown hero, or for your fellow patriots, American Hero Imperial Stout is the perfect way to say “Thank you” to America’s soldiers.

Wow!
This is a great kit! I used the Wyeast American Ale Yeast 1056. The ABV is nearly right on target, and the flavor is amazing, the color is like motor oil. Lots of roasted malt flavor, good mouth feel, and good bittering. The hops are not too strong, though. It did not carbonate properly in the bottles, so I'll have to work on that. But I'll definitely brew this again.

Insane Stout Flavor
Love the dark beers and this one definitely did not disappoint. Well worth the investment of money and time. I increased the hops and also added a cup of buckwheat honey to the second fermentation. The color is rich with a dark amber hue to it ? looks great in the glass and even better tasting. This will be a part of my on-going brew list.

Stunningly Good
I used this kit to make a milk stout. Added 5 oz of lactose during the last 5 minutes of the boil. 5 weeks in the fermented and 3 in the bottle before I tried it. It was fantastic. Perhaps the best stout I've ever tasted. I used the trick of taking about a tablespoon of the beer and rapidly injecting it into the glass using a small plastic syringe. This infused nitrogen and the beer instantly developed a beautiful, creamy, 1.5 inch head. Plan to order another one soon!

American Hero Imperial Stout Extract Kit - Yummy
A little high on the Hoppy Taste, as I left them in the Brew a little too long, but nice color, good head, and mine came-out at 11.2 ABV. Bottled all in bomber bottles, so one bomber, mellows-me-out nicely. going to try the All Grain kit next. I give it a 5 star, all the way around.

Very Good Imperial Stout!!!
This stout is great. Easy to brew, tastes great. I liked it as well as any Imperial Stout I can buy except for maybe Sam Smith. I am going to order it again.

Still in works
Been brewing for about 7 years now and this is the first time with an Imperial Stout. Everything went perfect with the brew, pitched the California Ale yeast at 72* in to the aerated wert and after 3 days it still hasn't taken off! My OG was just shy of 1.090. I recommend using a yeast starter and nutrient. I'm going to have to wait till the local homebrew shop opens up on day 4 of the stall and buy more yeast, just to see if I can save this $65 batch. I will say that so far it smells good. I'll update the review as time passes.

If I want my American Hero Imperial Stout Extract Kit to have less hop bitterness , Will it hurt anything if I use one oz. instead of two oz. of bittering hops at the beginning of the boil?
Mike H on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely not. When I made the American Hero imperial stout extract kit, I only used 1.5 ounces of the Summit hops for the full boil and 2 ounces of the Goldings - 1 ounce each at 45 minutes (into the boil) and 55 minutes respectively. Had others try it (not friends feeling like they had to protect my feelings), and some said they would pay for beer like that. So, experiment, have fun, but most of all, brew on!
Anyone ever added cherry puree to this kit?
T O on Dec 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for posting this great question. Hopefully someone has tried it, I have not, but the community can see it and hopefully let you know. This stout is rather robust so I do not think it really needs cherries, they might clash with the deep dark chocolate and roast flavors in this stout. Prost!
Does the American Hero stout kit come with 2 six pound cans or 1 twelve pound can?
P O on May 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It includes two 6-lb jugs of malt extract.
