General Organics Ancient Forest 0.5 cu ft

This soil amendment is natural humus, harvested from Alaska forests. Humus is what you get when you allow vegetable compost to utterly decompose over many years. When composting is finished there’s still a lot of action going on: the rich dark goo is full of bugs, bacteria, fungi and microbes.

Leave that compost for a hundred (or a thousand!) years and things break down on a molecular level, and you’ve got humus: a dark, spongy, carbon-based soil that’s free of any biological contaminants, holds 90% of its weight in water and latches onto plant nutrients like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Plant roots get these nutrients right out of the humus! As a bonus, humus makes your soil crumbly and spongy, allowing air flow and easy root penetration.

Pro-tip: The 0.5 cubic foot bag will treat approximately 12 square feet of soil. Loosen soil before adding and work in gently with a trowel or fork.

Ancient Forest is a natural product consisting of 100% pure forest humus. It is derived from thousands of years of naturally decomposed forest litter that contains a wide spectrum of organic compounds. An incredibly high diversity of microorganisms, with more than 35,000 species of bacteria and over 5,000 species of fungi, make Ancient Forest an ideal amendment for gardening and potting soils. Ancient Forest also aids in the retention of water and nutrients; creating stable, long lasting soil for your garden. The immense biological activity also makes Ancient Forest the ideal inoculum for actively aerated compost teas. unlike manufactured commercial compost -- guaranteed absence of any pathogens, chemical impurities or foreign residues, Ancient Forest is the standard for use in successful and assured humus tea brewing and as an extremely stable, long lasting and very fertile garden soil amendment. Along with its special microbiological attributes and total absence of inorganic contaminants, Ancient Forest Humus has two other important properties. First, it contains complex microscopic pores which provide the perfect “condominium” living environment for its countless microbial communities. Secondly, because Alaska has an astonishing 56 volcanoes, Ancient Forest Humus deposits have been intermittently layered over time with fine coatings of ash containing valuable plant-available minerals ejected during many eruptions.
