DetailsThe fermentor that started it all, reinvented again! We’ve taken the revolutionary Big Mouth Bubbler® glass and re-engineered it with the help of world-class Polish master glassmakers to ensure sturdy, solid, superior craftsmanship.
Extra-thick glass eliminates oxygen permeation and keeps your brew safe. Banish bugs and bacteria with perfectly air-tight seals from a carefully ground, completely smooth and obsessively flat neck top.
In the evolution of Big Mouth Bubbler®, we’ve added some perks! Instantly measure volume with gallon graduation marks. Easier transfer of clear beer with a taller, narrower body while ensuring less liquid is left behind.
Say goodbye to that awkward brush and give your fermentor the deep-clean your beer deserves. Scrub off any unseen biofilm. Effortlessly wipe away crusted krausen in just a couple of carefree minutes.
Bid your funnel and siphon sayonara! Pour cooled wort directly from your kettle into the Big Mouth Bubbler® for instant transfers. Pitch yeast without it running down the sides of your fermentor. Easily add flavorings to secondary, and then just as easily remove them!
Last but not least, you asked and we listened—more space for the adhesive FermagraF° LCD thermometer than any other glass fermentor! The most obsessively engineered glass fermentor ever created—we are proud and excited to introduce the new and improved Big Mouth Bubbler® EVO 2.
Caution: Big Mouth Bubbler® is a large hand-formed glass item that can be easily damaged if not used with proper care and handling. It may have variations in shape and thickness, and will show the normal bubbling characteristics of hand-formed glass. Extreme changes in temperature or sudden contact with hard surfaces may cause glass to crack. Handle with care–we strongly recommend using the Big Mouth Bubbler® carrying harness for increased safety and ease of handling.
Note: We still strongly recommend the Big Mouth Bubbler® carrying harness.

3.3 / 5.044 ReviewsBig Mouth is awesome, new "universal" lid is not.I love the Big Mouth Bubbler and have multiples of them. Reason it gets a 3 out of 5 is the new "universal" lid. I have to weight it down or tape it to the bubbler for a lot of my brews to prevent it from blowing off. Wish they would have stuck with the older screw on lids.August 15, 2016THIS is the Cadalliac of small fermenters. As an owner and user of a 10 gallon stainless conical fermenter, I'm going to say this is the nicest fermenter you can buy for general use without breaking the bank. So superior to carboys and buckets it's not worth discussing. I use carboys still as secondaries, but as a primary, thanks but no thanks. I also used buckets in the past but I'm sick of shrinkwrapping the lids only to still have them leak and not show activity. I bought mine (2) in January of 15, they've been in pretty constant use since. They have made flawless beer. I have kept the boxes they came in and I do put those upside down over top of the thing any time it has beer in it. (light protection) I also keep them in a relatively light controlled area, but I don't have a totally dark place to put them unless I'm lagering in my freezer, thus the boxes. Cut a small hole for the airlock to poke through, then put foil over top for any other small amount of light that might get to your beer. _x000D__x000D_The glass is very beefy, this isn't your typical chintsy carboy. I dropped a 10" channellocks off my counter and hit BOTH of mine, day one, and they both laughed it off. I didn't think it was so funny. But they didn't mind. Don't try this at home._x000D__x000D_If you keep this in the dark, this is absolutely as functional as a stainless conical. I see complaints about the plastic ones not sealing, that is not an issue with these, not even a little. Another reviewer says the bung isn't a good fit, mine are perfect and if that's al the issue is, get a different number bung. _x000D__x000D_Cleaning is awesome. Visibility is 100%. The ground rim seals perfectly every time and the lid is gasketed. Especially for a beginner who wants to see the fermentation as it progresses, this is THE thing to have._x000D__x000D_Cons: You NEED a BrewHauler with these. They are bulky and not easy to handle. These need protection from light just like a white plastic bucket or carboy. Protect your beer!_x000D__x000D_I can't say enough about how much I like these. For the price, they are The fermenter bargain. Get two at least. Worth every penny and then some.June 19, 2015Big Mouth Bubbler? EVO 2 - 6.5 GallonI have been brewing my own beer for 10+ years now and I was always using the plastic buckets for fermenting. Last year I brewed a Bourbon Barrel Porter that required a 6 month fermentation so I gave the Big Mouth Bubbler a try. It worked great for that one, so now I am using it on all my beers. The buckets were fine, but it's more fun to see through the glass at what is happening during the fermentation process. Since this vessel has such a big mouth it is also easy to clean. One drawback is that due to it's glass construction, this adds to the weight of it, but I still eel it is worth it.August 3, 2016Lid retention not a problemI noticed in reading the reviews that some have reported the lid being forced out by pressure buildup during fermentation acting over the larger area presented to the pressure compared to the smaller size of a regular carboy "cork". I have not experienced this problem because I used the 3 -piece Airlock instead of the S Airlock shown in some of the pictures provided to show the Big Mouth Bubbler. The pressure created with use of the 3-piece Airlock is not sufficient to affect the lid to Jar seal when the amount of "sealing" water in the airlock is not excessive.May 29, 2017Purchased
1 year agoAlmost a great idea. The lid is a poor design. It does not stay in place.May 17, 2017Purchased
1 year agoAlmost perfectI've used glass and plastic carboys as well as buckets to ferment my beer and this unit has them all beat on several points. I love the big opening for ease of access for filling and for cleaning. I like the beefy feel of the glass. I like the idea that it is glass and will readily accept that risk in exchange for the durability and cleanliness available only from glass or stainless. _x000D__x000D_I do not care for the way the lid seals. It took an extra gasket coated with a thin layer of CIP Film to get mine to seal enough for bubbles to start in the airlock. I understand that others have experienced this issue as well. Would this stop me from buying another one? No. It is still a good product but needs a little more work to get that 5th star from me.August 2, 2015Love the wide mouth, deal with the restThe wide mouth top makes cleanup a breeze and I love that. The "universal lid" needs a new design in order to get it to stay sealed. I placed the lid on the fermenter and within a minute it had pushed itself up to the point where it was just resting on the top. Attempted to even use duct tape to keep it secured, but it pulled that up and off as well. Searched online and saw someone suggest small spring clamps from the hardware.. excellent advice and it has worked perfectly since. I also found the ridges on the INSIDE to be counter-intuitive considering we don't want anything for the yeast to settle on and mix back in when moved. Since I only plan on using this for primary fermentation, I can live with it. If they made the inside completely smooth with no pits or ledges, I would give this a 4-star rating. Fix the lid to seal without buying clamps and I would give a 5-star.March 21, 2017Purchased
1 year agoBad lid design!Silicone seal slides up and will not stay on. please sell a screw lid that will stay on! Solid carboy but pretty worthless if lid will not stay on. Support said to use tape! Why not design something that works! Very disappointed!January 10, 2017Purchased
1 year agoNice fermentor but silicone lid needs redesignedI have read all of the past reviews and a redesign of the new silicone lid is necessary. The very first time I used it I ensured (as instructed by Customer Service) that the silicone lid and the neck of the fermentor were dry prior to sealing for my primary fermintation. Within 14 hours I returned to check on the fermintation and found that the lid had been pushed partially out of the neck of the bubbler and there no longer was a solid seal. Duck tape now seems to be the solution.
Please come up with a better solution and rectify the problem for all of the customers who have purchased the big mouth bubbler. Such a nice piece of brewing equipment with a fatal flaw.
Thank You.January 16, 2017bad design of the lidThe wide mouth is wonderful to clean ,but the lid is no good .I brewed three batches in this large jar and the first batch the lid blew off and I used a 1 1/2 blow off hose . I woke up with a mess and the whole batch had to be throwed away $30.00 wasted. The second batch I taped the lid down with duct tape and it still leaked . The third batch was the same leaking lid taped down with duct tape I wasted $59.00 for the jar plus the $30.00 for the batch wasted . That is $90.00 wasted on this big mouth bubbler from your store, with all the bad reviews you are still selling this product. I have read a lot of revews from your store and northern brewer and still the same problems people are having is with the lid problem .You should pull the product and go back to the drawing board and design a new lid maybe with threads and a gasket . I'm going back to my carboys, they are harder to clean but does not leak with the blow off hose, I'm very disapointed with this, I should have read the reviews before I bought this product. Browse 8 questions Browse 8 questions and 15 answersWill a 6.5gal work for 5gal brews or will I absolutely need a 5gal for the secondary fermentation? I'm trying to save as much space as possible. Is there a way to use the 6.5gal for the primary and secondary fermentation?BEST ANSWER: You can use a larger size vessel to ferment in primary or secondary but you will need two separate vessels one for primary and one for secondary. The big mouth fermenters have to be taped on the top during primary around the rim the cap seems to pop off due to pressure from CO2 but they are much easier to clean I also recommend getting the plastic drying stand for the fermenter it works for either big mouth fermenters as well.can I get the dimensions of the EVO 2- 6.5 gallon? I am trying to see if this will fit in my mini fridge. I am currently using 6 gallon glass carboys.BEST ANSWER: It is about 13" in diameter, and about 19" tall (without air lock or blow off). Can I use this for a primary fermentor for a 6 gallon wine kit??BEST ANSWER: A 6 gal batch may be tight. Not much room for yeast cap. It will work if your yeast doesn't overflow it. I assume the wine is a juice kit and not fresh fruit? 1/2 gal of spare room just seems too little for primary fermentation. I have had 5 hal of beer blow the top off with yeast/foam at the top. You usually want 25% - 30% headroom for a primary fermenter just to keep the messes down.can the manufact. drill and install a spigot?BEST ANSWER: The Evo 2 for a short time sold a spigot version. I have a 5 gallon Evo 2 Glass carboy with a spigot. Then a bunch of less then perfect spigot Evo 2 were discounted thru Northern Brewer. Now NB no longer sales spigot glass carboys. Just plastic big mouth bubblers. Drilling glass must be difficult or they would still be offered. So the short answer would be New.Is there a stopper for the big mouth bubbler that allows the use of a thermowell along with the airlock?BEST ANSWER: Most thermowell's come with a standard size (dia.)stopper, with 2 holes. 1 for the air lock and 1 for the thermowell. The TW I bought from another vendor was this way. That being said, the holes for a TW stopper are smaller then a standard 2 hole stopper you get from your local brew supply store. hope this helps. Will the depth charge accessory work with the screw on lid?Big Mouth Bubbler® EVO 2 - 6.5 GallonBEST ANSWER: Hi there- it does not work with the screw on lid. Cheers!I'm confused... this description says 6.5 gallon glass w/ threaded lid, but a lot of the reviews talk about the universal plug-style lid popping out. Does this come with the gray threaded screw-on lid, or does it come with the blue universal lid? I only want it if it has screw-on lid...BEST ANSWER: This product is currently being sold with the screw-on lid. Cheers! Can you use the 6.5gal for primary and secondary fermentation or do I absolutely have to get a second 5 gal carboy for the secondary fermentation? I'm tight on space so I'd rather find a way to make one work if it's possible.
