When dryhopping I tried a tip from a brewer friend of mine and placed the hops in a strainer bag that was sanitized (any mesh bag will work). I also placed about a dozen sanitized marbles in the bag. When I transferrred the primary over to secondary I placed the bag with hops and marbles in the carboy and transferred it right on top. Bag floated for 2 days but once the hops soaked up the wert the bag fell to the bottom, no more worries of clogged tubes when bottlng!March 11, 2013Great hops at a great priceI purchased these hops 2 weeks ago for an IPA I was making. I dry hopped after 10 days in primary and was very happy with the quality of the hops. 70% of the hops in the package were still intact when I opened the package. After 5 days dry hopped in the secondary the beer smells delicious!! I will definately be purchasing these from Midwest again.March 11, 2013Great aroma and tasteNice Pine and Citrrus taste. I added some Orange peel at knockout and it enhanced the flavor. I use Cascade at knockout to prevent the volatile aromatics from boiling off. Try the Cascade pale ale that Midwest sells to truely experience them.March 19, 2013Tremendous Citrus aromaI dry hop with the whole leaf cascade hops for 5 days and it gives an incredible aroma. I use them in IPAs and Pale ales so I try and buy in bulk. I also use them for flavoring, for the last 15 minutes of the boil. Many people have told me to use whole leaf hops instead of pellets and I now know why. The leafy nature seems to allow more of the flavor to release into your beer. The secret is to drink the beer fast, don't let it get stale and Oxydixe. If you dry hop with them, put them in a container of boiling water to get out the oxygen and wet them, so that they sink into the beer.July 23, 2013
