Discovered from a recipe created by the California-based homebrewing club “Brewing Enthusiasts of the Antelope Valley Region” (BEAVR), Chocolate-Covered BEAVR Nutz was aptly named for its chocolate, peanut and stout flavors! Our guys discovered this crowd pleaser at the National Home Brewers Conference in 2011 and it’s been a favored brew at the Southern California Homebrewers Festival the past two years. Many of the chocolate stouts made by the local Microbrews have a bit of bite, and this recipe really tops them. Nice foamy head, with a rich texture. The foam has strong peanut butter presence which disappears once you hit the smooth chocolate taste. A light peanut butter aftertaste finished the experience. _x000D__x000D_I have to agree with a previous reviewer that it does taste a bit better as it sits and settles in the glass._x000D__x000D_We drink it out goblets for the added effect, really brings out more of the smell and flavor that way._x000D__x000D_Also a pretty filling beer. I'd almost use it as an after meal or evening finisher. I got my PB2 from a place that rymes with Flamazon for the best price around.November 10, 2012A Very Different BrewThis is definitely not your average beer. the cocoa nibs give it a strong, sharp chocolate flavor, while the peanut butter flavor comes in afterwards. I found that giving it a bit longer in both the secondary and the bottles brought out the peanut butter a bit more. _x000D__x000D_One word of advice: the powdered peanut butter that gets added during secondary fermentation absorbs a lot of liquid, so I'd suggest aiming for a quart or so over your normal fill.December 11, 2012Pay Day BrewThis is an expensive brew to make plain and simple. But to me it is worth it. I brewed this AG and it came out phenominal. make sure you give it a good 2 months after bottling or kegging to let the chocolate and roastyness time to settle. The peanut butter is very subtle. If you taste teh actual PB2 product it does not have a strong taste in the first place. I am brewing this again over christmas and going to add an extra jar of the Chocolate PB2 at flame out.December 11, 2012Really great Choc StoutI ordered this kit because it was unique. I absolutely love this beer! It was only the 5th batch of beer I ever brewed and I took some to a local homebrew contest and won 1st place with it! Not the cheapest beer to brew and ordering the powdered PB2 separately is a little extra effort and cost, but totally worth it in my book.December 26, 2012My best beer so farI've been brewing on and off for about 13 years. This is my favorite at this point and has been a big hit with friends and family. I did leave in the primary for 3 weeks and secondary for over a month. Other then that, followed the recipe exactly. Pretty huge grain bill for an extract. Tried one after a month in the bottle. Was good but decided to wait another four months. After four months it was excellent. It is now six months in the bottle and really coming into its own. The peanut butter is coming out a little bit but still more chocolate aroma and flavor which is what I wanted so perfect for me. The alcohol came in at just over 9% so you do have to watch it. I have definitely become a hoarder with this beer and will not be giving any more away until my next batch is well underway. I plan on having this around as a permanent fixture! Big walkaway.....it's a big, heavy beer so give it time to mellow. It tastes AMAZING! When you say liquid peanut butter cup...this is it! Chocolate on the front end, PB on the back. Easy to brew, and worth the wait time. I like it, but the review from others is that it is a bit much for them. It certainly is a sipping beer, not a drink it all night long beer. The peanut butter leaves a slimy mouth feel. _x000D__x000D_I might make it again, but will brew it sooner to let it age in the secondary longer. Also there are a large amount of specialty grains. The instructions were not clear as to how long the peanut butter was to remain in the fermenter. Is it to be left in the fermenter when racking to the secondary? Or should I stir it up and continue exposure in the secondary?BEST ANSWER: This is what I did. I believe in most cases when you do a secondary ferment you want to add whatever addition (pb) before primary ferment is over. I transferred to a secondary carboy and let t ferment for two weeks. I Put TWO jars of pb fit into a nylon bag to limit loose sediment. One jar was peanut butter and cocoa powder. I left it in for two weeks. I cold crashed the carboy for 5 days to let everything settle out and transfered to my keg. Two weeks was great. Taste it and see if it's enough pb taste for you. Leave it in for a while longer if you wishdoes this kit have any wheat in it?My friend has an allergy to wheat.BEST ANSWER: Good day fellow chocolate lover. First off, I'm not a chemist so I do not have an expertise on ingredients but what I do know what tastes good and this batch my friend is a real winner. From my notes I see Barly for steeping, malt extract during the boil. You will have hops for both bittering and aroma. Then you have the good stuff; Peanut Butter powder, Cocoa powder and Cocoa Nibs. Nothing that relates to wheat! Be patient grasshopper, this one takes awhile.When racking on top of the Peanut Butter powder do you stir or swirl the carboy up? I didn't and now have all the powder just sitting on the bottom. I want to swirl it up but don't want to mess everything up. Note: Nibs went in yesterday.BEST ANSWER: sorry it took so long but I just brewed it.I racked on top most of it came to the top. I tried to stir it but I raced in to a 5 gall carboy and it took off and waned to bubble out of the carboy. Next time I will rack to my 6 gall carboy.
